Oscar’s Lazy Day

11/06/2012

The great hunter placed his body low to the ground. With the quiet instilled by years of training and centuries of animal instinct he pulled himself through the undergrowth barely displacing a blade of grass in his progress. Books should be written about this skill and future generations will seek to emulate the perfect machine. At last the progress came to an end and the prey was not just in sight but was in perfect ignorance of what was to happen. One perfect pounce and it would all be over.

Damn, it flew away. I was poised to get it, resting annoyingly as it was on top of a rose.
These butterflies are unpredictable. We had some warmth and light from the sky today and the Longlegs were out and about in the garden with smiles on their faces. My ‘The Her’ was wearing those funny short skins on her legs . She was going round pulling up weeds. Being an obliging sort of chap I tried to help but she didn’t seem to welcome that and was constantly screaming at me to stay away and leave her flowers alone.
My ‘The Him’ looked silly walking round with a large piece of white tissue up his nose to stop him going Atishoooooo, as he seems to whenever we have a day like this and he spends it in the garden. She always tells him to go inside but he says “No” he wants to help. He doesn’t actually do anything though except follow the heat round by turning his chair and drinks the cold tea the other Longlegs brings out.Days like this don’t seem to happen as often as they used to when I was a kitten. And the Longlegs seem to say the same though of course they are idle and live a lot longer than Superiors. That’s probably because they let us do all the work. I mean, I caught two butterflies already today and how many have they caught?  None!! I suppose I should say I caught one really as the other one more or less caught me by landing on my nose. But hey, it’s a nice day and who’s counting.
In a moment I shall have a spot of milk and then take a stroll to the village to see what the gang  are up to. Maybe we can tease a bull in a field or something. Perhaps I’ll just lie here for a minute and replay that last hunt in my head while I doze.

  1. Nice day! Lovely pics too! Have a great week, David!

  2. OMG! David the gorilla video was fabulous. I’ve never seen it. Gave me a huge smile. And that takes some doing, since Monday is nipping at my heels, and I’ve just come down with a cold.
I’m happy that Oscar got a well deserved lazy day to nap on his laurels. The family photo was beautiful. Thanks for sharing it. Mega hugs to you and yours.

    • I wondered whether the Gorilla video might have been on general release since it’s an American company that owns Cadbury’s now. It looks as though maybe the video was just to promote sales of our favourite chocolate here. It’s such a great vid I had to try sharing it though.
I’m sorry to hear you’re miserable with a cold on the day you’re miserably going back into work.It should be a 5 day weekend and 2 days work really so we can solve the job shortage.
I’m so glad you liked the family picture.

  3. Aw, I think Oscar was lucky to catch two butterflies, David. I’m not sure how the one on his nose escaped. Cute photo of your family. 💞 Peace, my friend. Hugs.

    • I dare say the one on his nose escaped as even Oscar isn’t daft enough to swipe his own nose with claws out. I’m glad at least one got away.
Thank you, I’m very biased towards pictures of the family.

  4. Such a happy photograph! Very cheering!

  5. It snowed again today and I’m longing for a day like Oscar has described, in fact, my nose feels ticklish as if a butterfly has just landed upon it! Thank you for these lovely stories, they bring a smile to my face.

    • Yesterday was the first snow we actually saw in this area and though it lasted in the hills, here it was soon gone. The sun shone with a promise of what was to come with Spring in about 20 days. I hope you get your longed for day then and the snow is long gone.
I’m so glad you enjoy the stories Huguette, I’m glad of the smile.

  6. I think Oscar discovered the secret of the ages. The Superiors do all the work and therefore have shorter lives. Genius. Thanks for the lovely week wish, David and the best to you as well. Love the Gorilla vid.

    • I wish he’d stop blaming me for the longer life and keep those claws to himself John. Thanks so much for your wishes. I’m glad you enjoyed the Gorilla video. Since Cadbury’s is owned by an American firm now, I thought maybe the video would have been shown over there too.
      Hugs

  7. Oscar finally ran around in the sunshine, without rats on his mind. Spring must be in the air.
    Great music choice and the drummer–wow! 😛 😛 ❤

    • That must have been a great day for the Rats too if not for butterflies. An Oscar free day for them.
Thanks Tess for enjoying the music and the Cadbury’s advert. That’s an amazing video…..how did they teach a gorilla to drum like that? Ha Ha.

  8. Butterflies and allergies seen through Oscar’s eyes become quite something else really 🙂 Love the family photo today too David xoxo

  9. -giggles- Oscar was actually funnier than the gorilla! Lovely pics of the kids and Yvonne? -hugs-

  10. Oscar is really a mighty hunter. I loved the gorilla ad. Cute picture of the children. Amelie is being very patient in waiting for the next mouthful. 😀 —- Suzanne

    • You would have made Oscar very big headed Suzanne. I’m glad you enjoyed the gorilla, I thought it was an awesome advert. Amelie is very patient but I expect she just has a very long memory for vengeance.

  11. Love this 🙂

  12. Always love reading about Oscar, the photo is beautiful and LOVE that video, never saw it before. It’s fantastic, thank you for sharing and can’t wait to read more of Oscar, have a fantastic week David, a humongous hug my friend.

    • I’m so glad you enjoy Oscar Suzanne as it means I see more of you. i’m grateful to him for that. I liked the photo because Yvonne was on the right side of the camera for a change,
I was sure that now Cadbury’s is owned by an American firm you’d have all seen the Gorilla video. It’s a real gem.
I wish you the happiest of weeks and send you as always

  13. Cats know how to relax. 🙂 The grandkids are as adorable as always!
I’d never seen the Gorilla ad either. It said it’s from 2007.

I hope you have a wonderful week, David. Hugs!

    • Word experts at relaxing and jumping in empty boxes.(Unfortunately not for long enough for it to get to the Post Office).
Thank you Merril, they always seem happy.
I’m amazed no-one there has seen the ad. I know Cadbury’s chocolate is on sale over there. I wonder if Phil Collins plays the gorilla.
Have a fantastic week full of reasons to smile.

  14. I’m with Oscar. Gardening isn’t for me either. I like the garden but prefer to relax in it. Those warm sunny days are only a few months away, David. Then again, so is hayfever season. 😧
    Sending some hugs your way.

  15. Tell Oscar and the Rat Pack I said Hello/Meow. Here is a crazy funny video from Bjork. The Bjork Cat Dance at the end is the best!! LOL!! 🙂 😀

Björk – Triumph Of A Heart (Official Music Video)

    • Hello/Meow back. I put the video on for Oscar and he just ran past m screaming. The girls just continued with what they were doing whicch was eat breakfast. I was safe since I’ve seen Bjork video’s before and wore earplugs.
      I hope you’re OK today.

What a lovely story. Love days like that. I’d be inclined to find a warm sunny spot and just snooze there, too. Huge hugs to you, David. Xxx

  17. Lovely day. The cats know the meaning of ‘lazy’. Way to learn from them 🙂

    Many hugs! xxxxxx

  18. Gorgeous your BLOG !!! I’m following!!! Follow mine too !!! Kisses !!!

  19. We all need those lazy days chasing butterflies. Great photo and thanks for the Four Tops song and the drumming gorilla. Awesome. Lol

    • I don’t mind the chasing of butterflies but I’m not so keen on the catching. I’m glad you liked the pic and even more glad you liked the Four Tops. The gorilla is as you say….awesome.

  20. I adore Oscar … love his sense of superiority, as I am sure 6 of our 7 feline babes feel much the same! The other one has the feline equivalent of autism and is scared of anything that moves. Thanks for the smile, my friend! 🙂

    • This week a little difference for Oscar though obviously still superior. I’m sorry for No.7 of your babes, being in fear is very draining.

  21. The gorilla had me cracking up!! Hope you have a nice weekend David!

  22. Lovely photos. Oscar is quite the hunter and living the indolent life this time around. I love chasing butterflies but never lucky enough to catch one. They are too fast for me 😉

    • I remember catching a butterfly as a child and stupidly holding it on the wings. e pattern, the colour are like a powder, the slightest touch and they’re gone. I never tried to catch another on after that.

  23. Oscar is obviously a very superior cat….. and the grand children are gorgeous … shame they have to grow up – mine are all in their twenties now, and I long for when they were little, like yours…

    • He was very Superior Valerie. The grandies are gorgeous but run rings round me at this size, maybe in their twenties I can get them to push me round instead? How about a swap?
