The Progress Report.

This progress report is nothing more than an excuse to post a few pictures and try and wriggle my way out of trouble where possible. Round about my Plas Teg post I explained the cellulitis and what was happening to my right foot and the lower leg between knee and ankle. Well, that first week I was visiting the surgery to undergo one of my regular reviews and it was to be done by a new Sister. (Nursing not familial). She decided after seeing my foot that I needed to see the doctor and somehow she managed to slot me in after this appointment was due to end. Accordingly I found myself sitting in the corridor waiting for the doctor to finish with her last patient. I saw another patient going in and  realised she was running late. I took the chance and did a runner, though I did get the reception to cancel my appointment. The next morning the doctor got in touch with my boss (Yvonne) and a third batch of antibiotics was on it’s way to me.

This last  week it was coincidental that the antibiotics finished and that I was due for another review for a different complaint. This time it was with my favourite Sister. I was fairly sure I’d be in and out in no time and that I could count on her especially as it was a day my own doctor wasn’t in. Anyway, review done she asked to have a look at my feet even though I said things were improving. She took a look at my leg also at which point she excused herself and darted off to have a word with someone. That someone turned out to be another doctor whom I didn’t know and who wanted to see me. Drat. I didn’t get chance to do a runner this time even though the situation was stressful. I hate afternoon appointments as there are always more people about. I hate leaving the house at all. She saw me quite quickly and offered her opinion which matched the Sister’s, then gave her instructions as to what was to happen at which point I was doing a lot of nodding and edging towards the door. I got out and got home. One thing she suggested was getting the foot dressed. I was due for blood tests last Friday morning so Yvonne arranged for me to attend the dressings clinic. Mike came over on Thursday night and took me to both appointments on Friday so once my foot had been dressed I was able to go home quite quickly.

school day 1-ready

Three weeks after turning 4 he’s off to school. At least I had 8 months after my birthday before I went (1955) and I’ll bet I wasn’t this calm.                                                                       So, it’s been quite eventful. My right leg is still very swollen but I think this last lot of concentrated antibiotics have turned the foot round (no, I’m not walking backwards to Christmas). Another week and we’ll see if the cracking to the skin has gone. Maybe if I still have fat leg in a few weeks I’ll rethink things so that it doesn’t interfere with the Christmas shopping. ( stop that crying now, it’s only 11 weeks away I’m told, that’s not a lot).

This morning (Sunday) we’d hoped to get to a car boot sale and the forecast had been good. The reality was different. Mike’s prayers must have come true when his alarm went off and I went through to tell him to turn it off  and go back to sleep. He never needs telling twice. About half an hour later I was working on emails when the who system went down. I knew it wasn’t a power cut as my lights were still on. Checking the house it was clear the ring main which controls the plug sockets was down. I tried rebooting the trip switch in the fuse box to no avail but the noise from the alarm system hiccuping was disturbing Mike so he got up. We spent most of the morning pulling every plug out and putting them in one by one until we came to one that caused the system to go down again. By the time it had given three different answers we were tearing our hair out and gasping for breath after climbing under beds and over bookcases etc. Eventually we had an electrician. It took until 1.00 pm before we had the likely suspect(s) maybe my fridge, or maybe the socket I’d had my fridge plugged in. The fridge is plugged in elsewhere now so I can keep an eye on it. So after my keep fit morning we finally got to go for lunch later than usual. Not a problem, our table wasn’t in use. A beautiful roast beef dinner made the world OK again.

I wish you all a wonderful week filled with smiles and Hugs. Fill as many lives with the same as you can.

  1. MY goodness. Why would you want to be a runner with a fat leg? Hope it gets better. Lovely (as usual ) photos of the little ones.

  2. I can’t believe Reuben is in school already. I’ve been around for a while! He’s tall beside Amelie. I’m glad so many people are concerned about your leg, David, but it’s concerning. I agree that a roast beef dinner makes everything okay, if even for a short time. Take care, my friend. Hugs.

  3. Reuben and Amelie are beautiful, as always! Reuben seems so tall all of a sudden! And off to school … sigh. Time flies.

A few gaps filled in with this post 😉 And I shan’t nag, but will settle for saying … take care of yourself … the world needs you.

    • I always think the school uniform shrinks them but he does seem tall in the one with Amelie. School at 4 seems wrong somehow though it was no different for me I suppose.
I’m glad you filled a few gaps from the narrative but grateful for the no-nag promise. Ah, if only it were true and the world needed me. My lungs aren’t big enough for that.

  4. Take care of yourself David! And they are adorable!

  5. I agree with all the comments. Reuben is looking so grown-up! Do take lots of care, David. Big hugs!

  6. What a time you’ve had! Thanks for letting us know what has been going on. Fingers crossed. xxx Healing Hugs xxx

  7. I won’t nag either, but you know what I’m /thinking/…. Give the kids and Yvonne a big hug. You have such a wonderful family. Oh and give yourself a big hug too. 🙂

  8. I’m all for doing runners from doctors and hospitals but I don’t have a fat leg to contend with…….. I can’t believe Reuben is now going to school – four is very young! He looks rather suave and in control too – are you sure you didn’t miss a digit off? 🙂

    • I have the crutches to help Pauline so it was easy. 4 seems young to me too but it’s all to do with cut off ages. If you’re 4 before the end of Aug yo start the new school year in Sept. If you’re 4 the 1st of Sept you wait a year. I was 4 in a January so was half a year older when I started. He did seem very in control and nonchalant that day. Maybe he was 42?

  9. All of the above and I am glad I am not the only mentioning the C word …( 97 sleeps) I tried to whisper…lol….Leg sounds painful so take care 🙂

    • The whisper was much appreciated but the tellings off make me deaf. I’m lucky there hasn’t been much pain from Fat Leg just discomfort but the cellulitis made up for that. So, just 97 sleeps, that means we’ll both get a telling off for mentioning it.

  10. Apart from feeling sad for your foot and hoping it gets better real soon, I enjoyed the photo-excuse for this post, David. Wow, little man soon to be big man 🙂 Hugs with lots of repeats!

    • Thanks so much Ina, I’m sure it will be back to what passes for normal soon. The photo excuse was needed as I’m way behind the times with the pictures.. It was funny to see the change a few clothes could make to the little man.

  11. The children are darling – and growing up so quickly, but I want to use this space to add my tut-tut-tuts. Allow yourself to be taken CARE of and stop with the runners! Even though we would still find you attractive, peg legs are no longer in fashion.

    • Thank you Madelyn, yes the children are growing apace. I can’t keep up.
La la la la I can’t hear a telling off la la. I have to do the runners as part of my training regime. I do think you need to book an appointment with your optician and/or psychiatrist if you’re allowing me and attractive in the same sentence. Now the peg-leg would help me get parts in pantomime at Christmas……not that I’m allowed to use the C word yet.

  12. Oh, you are naughty, running off from the doctor. Still, if you can run, you mustn’t be too bad! Perhaps that’s how they test your health!
I really can’t believe those pictures – he’s so grown up.

  13. Those gorgeous children need their granddad – look after yourself, David.x

  14. Nice to hear from you, David, and see the pics of your sweet grandkids. I wish you swift recovery, and hope you will be walking well in time for Christmas! :-)))) xxxx

  15. Jane Sturgeon

Dear David, I am sending you healing thoughts every day with the softest of hugs. Love your pics and I hope the dear little lad had a great first day. More hugs and much ❤ xXx ❤

    • Thanks so much Jane, I’m sure your healing thoughts are working as the suggested DVT has kept away. Roobs had a great first day and has enjoyed going back every day since then. He does look grown up.

  16. Lovely photographs…hope the little chap enjoys going to school and that his sister doesn’t miss him too much.
    No tellings off from me…
    A. Not qualified so to do…
    B. Husband a recidivist escapee from surgeries, clinics and hospitals…
    Just look after yourself.

    • Hello Helen, thank you. Yes, he loves going to school, and Amelie does miss him so she’s a bit quiet but she’s building her own identity this way and it’s lovely.
Thank you for no tellings off and please tell your husband it’s nice to hear of another member of the Fellowship of Recidivists.

  17. Good to hear you can manage the odd quick sprint again, David; some of those doctors are pretty fast on their feet! The kids look great, don’t they? So grown up. Hugs, and best wishes.

    • It’s amazing what a touch of fear can do for your speed Frederick.. I have to be quick as some of mine are Rugby players and you don’t want to be pinned against a wall by 17 stone of that.
The kids do look great. Roobs is very grown up.
      Hugs

  18. Best wishes with your foot, David! Trying to picture you doing a runner with a bad foot.

  19. That leg is giving you the “run” around, David. I hope it gets better soon. Great photos of the kids – they’re growing up so fast. Reuben looks dashing. 🙂

    • I’m sure it’s on the way Diana, just not sure which map it’s using to get there. They’re growing up faster than I was ready for. He does look handsome in his uniform and he likes school. Yay.

  20. Thanks to your explanation of cellulitis, I checked a patch of redness on my leg. I don’t think it is, but it needs watching.
    Keep well.
    xxx careful hugs xxx

    • If there’s the slightest chance of any open skin or a small cut in that redness be careful. Keep the spot moisturised is the doctor’s advice. Aveeno is good.
      Take care Dear Jemima

  21. Your post has left me smiling! I’m currently caring for my almost 82 year old father who is a wee bit of a runner himself, I’m glad to read that things are improving and the pictures you posted are beautiful.

    • I’m always happy if my posts make someone smile but I certainly don’t condone an 82 year old doing a runner. He should at least be in a chair being pushed.
I’m glad you enjoyed my pictures of the special people in my life.

  22. Hope you’re feeling better soon, David–and your power stays on. 🙂
The photos of the grandkids are delightful. Reuben looks so grown up in his school uniform! Hugs!

    • Thank you Merril. The power is yet another story…….
I’m so glad you liked the pictures. Reuben does look grown up in his school uniform, I walked into the playground with him yesterday and watched him greet his friends, Brilliant!

  23. Stay off your feet David. Get well soon! Maybe afterschool your grand baby (son)will come home and read you a story…??? Telling you about his schoolday will also give you comfort!! If your grandbabies are growng up this fast, what’s happening to we oldies but goodies? 😕 Healing hugs to you David!! 😃

    • Thanks so much. Staying off my feet feels like giving up and I hate doing that but I’ll rest more often than usual. Roobs doesn’t live near enough his Pops to come and read me a story but he can natter at me if I see him on the way to School on a Monday.
I fear a Government plot to reduce our year by 3 months so Christmas shopping hits the shops a bit sooner. I’m getting older a lot faster than I used to in my thirties and before.
I’m grateful for the healing Hugs which I enjoyed.

  24. I was wondering about you, Sir David, and here I see a progress report. It’s a tribute to your good humor that whilst some of your health problems continue you choose to post happy photos of children dear to you. They are little darlings!

    • There’s no point in losing my humour Marian, when I go it will be with a smile on my lips. Thank you, the children are little sweeties and I still maintain Amelie will be my best friend.

  25. Sending healing hugs your way. Love the photos of the children.

  26. It’s great your leg and foot are being attended to speedily. I’m also glad to hear your electricity problem was solved. Things seem to be going your way. The pictures of the children were great. It looks like Reuben is getting taller by leaps and bounds. I’ve noticed his dad is tall so that’s not a surprise. I just love Amelie’s little smile. She’s such a doll. xxx Huge Hugs xxx 🙂 — Suzanne

    • Yes, I’m getting more attention than I like at the moment.
It’s electricity -1 Me -0 at the moment until the new fridge is delivered and I can get my milk in it.
Roobs is getting taller bit I’m not sure he won’t stop at about 5′ 8″by his build. If he gets near my shoulders I’ll worry.
You’re quite right, Amelie is a real doll, always smiling for me.

  27. Ali Isaac

Great to see you blogging proper and back to your old tricks again! I just can’t believe Reuben is off to big school! He looks so smart, and so confidant. Is he loving it? All my three started at the age of four. Seems so young, but they were ready, and I suspect Reuben is too. Bet Yvonne is missing him. Hope the leg is finally on the mend. Hugs to you! Xxx

    • Thanks so much Ali. I wasn’t sure how welcome the old style blog would be. Roobs did look smart and seems to be loving it so far. I think he was ready, but on the advice of some teacher friends Yvonne avoided trying to teach him to write his name so he wasn’t taught a different way than is recommended now. Yesterday he asked why he’s the only one in class who can’t do it. She’s devastated. Yes, she’s missing him but at least Amelie is coming in to her own now.
