Once I finished breakfast at 3.45 am ( 2 Weetabix) I took a coffee back to the office in my dressing gown. No I don’t have an office in my dressing gown but I just love the way some things read occasionally. Bureau for sale by Lady with big drawers. Marble top table for sale by man with wooden legs. I’d always picture a long John Silver type. The English language can be such fun though it wasn’t this morning as I struggled to get up to date before I got dressed and went out. In the end I decided to get ready at 6.00 am complete with shoes in case I had to leave quickly as time gets away from me sometimes. Well, time didn’t get away, I was on the ball and left at 7.00 am to catch the 7.15 am bus. Poor Joey was still in his cage as it was too dark to risk opening it without a light. I caught my bus and had a good journey with my eyes closed to discourage conversation though not many people were aboard at that time. A few more by the time we pulled into Chester about 8.40 am. I was too late to catch Reuben before he went into school but I saw Yvonne and Amelie coming towards me across the playground. I got big smiles from both of them. We stopped for coffee and Ami came out of her buggy to give me a big hug. We did the usual round of a few shops to get Halloween stuff for the kids and just spent the morning nattering on. Ami helped me walk a few times by holding one of my crutches. It’s fun trying to keep the pace she wanted to set. Soon enough it was time to walk to the bus stop ready to come home. Big kisses all round and then waves as the bus drew out. My next hard job was not to fall asleep past the the bus stop at home. I managed fine, got in and let Joey out amidst a terrible telling off, had a quick lunch and started work. I nodded off between 8.00 and 9.00 pm when my favourite programme was on.
Up at 2.22 am this morning and spent what felt like the next hour standing over the loo having one of the stop-start wee’s that come with age. It was probably no more than 5 minutes really but just feels like a huge waste of time, though to be fair, it does keep the floors dry. I went back to my room and powered up the computer to start the mail. I worked till just gone 3.00 am then went for my meds and my breakfast. Toast and jam for a change. I came back to work and was clear by about 6.10 am so I skived off and sat in my chair in the lounge. I woke at 7.20 am and it being still just before dawn Joey was not awake to disturb me. I gave him fresh water and seed then came through to start again. There was not too much but one was along message I’d hoped to see. It took me until gone 9.00 am to finish that one and then longer to finish the others that had come. Because of that, and finally getting dressed I did not get to see the start of Homes Under the Hammer but I did get to see two of the three. At 11.00 am I went back through and did what I could with the mail until almost midday. At that point I slammed my shoes on (no socks- I live on the edge) and went to the chippy arriving back just in time to eat with Bargain Hunt. When that ended I shut my eyes for two minutes that turned out to be 95 minutes and woke refreshed. Back to work. As usual I worked till 4.30 pm and then didn’t go near the computer again until 9.00 pm. There was plenty of work waiting when I did which took me until 11.00 pm when it was time to wrap up and go for a read.
2.10 am this morning and I got up willingly enough, I thought I’d wet the bed. It appeared I’d had my knees bent so my feet were up around by bum. My big toe had been leaking quite a lot and I hadn’t had a dressing on so I didn’t make it sweat. It makes it look like I’ve been in a bath too long, all white and wrinkled. I struggled into my slippers and made my way to the loo. Coming back I loaded the email and started work until 3.00 am when I went for breakfast. Jam on toast today but I got a little carried away so I ended up with jam on three quarters instead of just two. I brought coffee back and worked until 4.15 am. I placed a bid on some plasters due to finish today then went to my chair in the lounge. I nodded until about 6.40 am then went back to my room stubbing my toe on the way. Joey told me to stop screaming and let him get back to sleep. There were a couple of times I ran out of work for a short period so I went to ebay and tried to get ideas for Christmas presents. Not easy this year I’m finding. The work kept filling up again and it was 11.45 am when I decided to go make my lunch and take a proper break. I sat down to watch Bargain Hunt and enjoy my food. I had chance to wash my pots before the goods went to auction so that when the programme was over I just turned the box off and snuggled down in my chair. I was away for an hour and a half. At 3.45 pm I’d reached the end so went through ready for Dil arriving around 4.30 pm. He was there in time to watch The Antique Road Trip which we both enjoy. We gamed afterwards and for a change it was my night two games to one, I must remember to swap the dice back again. Dil left at 9.00 pm so I wished Joey a goodnight and came through to work.
1.56 am and I’m pretty sure I didn’t want to get up but needs must and my eyes are wide open. My big toe is throbbing. I dressed it before getting into bed last night and the dressing has stayed on. It’s a little damp though. A visit to the loo and then an hour on emails until breakfast time. Back to look at my bank to see if I’m putting Christmas on hold this year or not then back to emails until 3.45 am and the last one is done. I went to Ancestry.com and added my new great nephew, his Pops (Dil) said he’s a beautiful baby. Another search on Ebay for birthday and Christmas ideas took me until 5.00 am and a break in my chair. Back to work at 6.20 am and somehow there was enough to keep me in business until 9.10 am when I hobbled to Pauline’s for my lottery and some bread. She told me she’s sold me the winning tickets this week. Hard luck the rest of you. At 10.00 am I watched Homes Under the Hammer before a last pre-lunch attack on the mail. After a very uncomfortable walk this morning my toe is still throbbing. Yvonne has arranged for the district nurse to come and re-dress it later. I had a bing meal for speed (any excuse) and though I longed for an hour in my chair, I couldn’t because Sharon was due to titillate me with her dusters. She arrived at 1.00 pm and left at 3.00 pm. It was a big shock to have the doctor turn up instead of the nurse but I wasn’t told off today. She’s put me back on strong antibiotics. She didn’t dress the foot though and said the nurse will be here tomorrow? Help me, my foot’s leaking. I saw my antique programme but some time after 5.00 pm I must have nodded off in my chair. When I woke it was 7.15 am and what was on screen was not what I’d have expected. I wonder if Joey’s making his own choices now. I took my meds at 9.00 pm, said goodnight to the gang and came through to work. 11.05 pm and it was time to have a read.
It’s been blowing a gale out there since I got up. That was 1.50 am today. I went through a little early to take my meds about 2.45 am so that once done I could immediately start doing my tablet trays for the next week as that takes a while. It was about 4.00 am when I went for breakfast knowing more than an hour had passed since the antibiotic. Hobbling back with my toe stuck to the inside of my slipper I cleared my regular mail and started on one very long one I receive. It takes forever but is well worth it in snark alone. By 7.45 am I’d dealt with that and cleared the rest of the incoming. I got dressed not knowing when the nurse will be arriving and went to wait in the lounge surrounded by all the wildlife. By 8.30 am I was bored and went back to work. The nurses arrived at about 11.15 am. I felt like Royalty as my foot was given a little wash then stinging iodine dressings were applied and then no less than three bandages to pad it and ensure it stays clean. It cost me a box of chocolates to get her to stop below the knee. I was part mummified. After they’d gone it was getting on for midday so I struggled into my slipper and did myself some beans on toast. After lunch I came back to work until 3.00 pm then gave myself a break to see Escape to the Country. Not only did I not see the end of it but I didn’t wake until 4.10 pm. At 4.30 pm I got a message from Mike to say he was on his way so I guessed it would be about 6.00 pm before he arrived if the traffic was OK. At 7.00 pm I went for a shower with a plastic bag over the offending foot. I sat with Mike until 9.00 pm then carried on working until I was clear to have a read.
Up at 1.50 am so I cheated and had the antibiotic at 2.00 am so I could have my normal breakfast with my main meds as usual at 3.00am. Mike’s alarm went off at 6.00 am and we left the house at 7.00 am. It seemed to take an hour to reach the car and then at least that to get into it. At the Supermarket I had to use an electric wheelchair to get round though Mike whinged it wasn’t the electric chair he had in mind. We delivered my present to my new great nephew and his Mum brought him out to the car to meet me. He’s beautiful. Apart from the difficulty of getting in and out I was a little afraid of going into the house where his brother can be a bit boisterous ( but lovely). Back on the road again we went to collect something for lunch and went home. The nurses came this afternoon and no joke, the leg is now wrapped fully to the knee. One of them didn’t know her own strength or didn’t have her caring hat on because she really hurt me. ( sob). A lot of work to catch up on with my left leg up on the bed while I work next to the bed. Than a bit of TV with Mike and that’s another day over. Nice day for sunshine.
2.50 am this morning which for some reason left me in a panic. I went through and took my meds including the antibiotic then for some reason took the first two diabetic tabs even though I hadn’t eaten. I managed to stop myself from taking the other two until 4.00 am when I went back to eat. In the meantime a wraith in Red Dragon pyjamas passed beneath the gaslit lamp whose light pooled in the courtyard and delivered a birthday card to my neighbour. I then worked on mail until it was time to eat my Weetabix. Mumford and Sons were striking up merry tunes in my earhole while I worked. I know I saw 6.00 am come and go but the next thing I know it’s 7.30 am and Mike’s waking me up asking me if I want to stay asleep (he’s perverted). I told him no, I’ll get up.He left and the next thing it was 7.45 am and a case of deja vu. I got dressed but could only put one shoe on and then a slipper on my most recent bad foot. At 8.15 am he helped me out and we drove to the car boot. It was terrible and I was so glad it was small. The pain was bad and my crutches were being caught by the grass, I even had a man with a trolley run over my foot. I had to keep stopping and then making myself go a little further. When it was time to stop to take my antibiotic we gave up. At least I had a few books. We drove to Prestatyn and sat in the car for a while before going into The Cookhouse and grabbing a table (quite a surprise to the couple sitting there I think). We had our usual carvery and the beef was lovely. Normality returned. After lunch we came home as my leg was tired and sore and it needed elevating. Mike left early and I came through to my room to work before the nurse came. That was about 4.30 pm and she kept asking about me elevating the leg, I kept crossing my fingers and saying “Of course, all the time.” It’s even worse than it was yesterday and the dressings got thicker. I can’t even get the slipper on now. I guess I won’t be going out anywhere this week. I worked a while longer when she left then returned to the lounge to sit with Joey at about 6.15 am. I kept nodding off, waking and nodding off again. I couldn’t tell you the storyline of anything that was on TV. 9.00 pm it was tablet time plus the antibiotic, a quick goodnight to Joey and then time to work again.
Have a grand week. Share the smiles and hugs with anyone in need in case that anyone is you someday. Love you all.
Up at 4.10 am I risked the last of the two pints from Saturday in my coffee and on my Weetabix. Since it’s been coddled and wrapped in a bag of ice in a bucket of cold water since Saturday it was just about OK. When I went out to the chemist with a handwritten request for drugs (Hand some over or I shoot), I was starting with a cold so covered the lower half of my face to prevent infecting anyone, that would have made intelligible speech all but impossible. I called at Pauline’s for cigarettes and a new two pint of milk and some baby gift wrap as the new event is imminent a new great nephew and brother to Nathan. The only other event of note was the great reveal. I took the plaster off my foot. It was beginning to look a bit rough anyway from where I’d reached down with my backscratcher. It came off easily which if Mike’s reading this will disappoint him. No hairs lost in the process. There was still blood on the plaster but I’m not worried as the area is smaller than it was.
Up at 3.12 am full of excitement at the delivery of the new fridge. They said between two and three o’clock so I hope I’ve not missed it already. I used milk to take my tablets and decided it felt warm so the Weetabix would get a miss. I put some toast on to cremate but remembered I’d adjusted the colour to a nice tan. While the bread toasted I went to the freezer and got out the butter Mike had put there on Saturday. The old butter resembles either cuckoo spit in yellow or maybe badly scrambled eggs. Out it went. I hadn’t given thought to the new stuff and had only just unwrapped it when the toaster threw out my toast. It was like trying to carve ice and the bits I did get off, the toast wasn’t hot enough to melt. It was nice when I had it though. There was a phone message at 12.30 pm after my lunch of sausage and chips (along with the news that the chippie was also waiting for a delivery of a washing machine from the same firm), the message said they hoped to be with me by 2.00 pm. If only they knew how close I am to the chippy. They got to me at 1.35 pm and it was unloaded and in the house before 1.40 pm. I gave them a tip and they left reminding me ‘That’s it for 4 hours now squire’. Damn, that means no shopping. I looked at the package and stopped breathing, that will never fir under my counter I thought. “Come on you plonker” said Mike’s voice inside my head, “it stands on polystyrene, it’ll be fine once you get it unpacked”. He’s right too. At 6.00 pm I pushed the fridge into place and turned it on ( lots of sweet nothings about how gorgeous it looked in white). It lit up so that’s half the battle. I turned it up a bit, put a few things in like the rest of the milk from yesterday and hoped for the best.
My Dog Brutus. Very quiet and easy to feed but burglars beware.
Bonzo. Still very much the puppy but he’s had Mike’s leg for hitting me with a remote.
I survived the milk at breakfast with my tablets but couldn’t face cereal so instead it was toast with sloppy butter. As soon as 9.00 am came though I went over the road to the One Stop (I actually got dressed first though, my reputation wouldn’t survive another incident). I managed to get the last semi skimmed 4 pint of my multiple filtered milk which I can’t get from Pauline’s. I got bread and butter, paid and went home. It broke my heart to throw out my ham, my bacon and my yoghurts that all say had to be kept cold but I’m going to Pauline’s in the morning so I can get emergency supplies to last till Saturday. The council came to collect the old fridge today free of charge. Games night improved when I won the Yahtzee and the Nomination Whist tonight, I didn’t mind losing the cribbage then.
Since I got up at 2.40 am I was able to turn everything on before heading off for my 3.00 am breakfast and the coffee I bring back with me. There was a fair bit of post but I needed to check my bank first. Once that was done it was full steam ahead on the mail. I worked till 9.00 am then went to Pauline’s for some shopping and my lottery tickets. When I came back I fed Brutus and Bonzo to keep them on my side and gave Joey fresh seed and water. Back to the mail until 10.00 am when it was time for Homes Under the Hammer. Disappointed that I wasn’t buying one I returned to mail at 11.00 am. All of a sudden, Disaster. Midway through answering an email my keyboard no longer wrote, and my mouse was drunk and ungovernable. At 11.45 am I was frustrated (No dear, not sexually) and scared at the imagined expense, I had to leave it to go and start peeling some sweet potatoes for lunch. Once they were ready to cook I put on some sausages ( a well known Irish brand) and as soon as they were a quarter browned I put my potatoes on for 8 minutes. As each section browned I turned the sausages then as my potatoes were ready I removed them , drained them, added butter and mashed them. As soon as that was done I stuck my baked beans in the micro for 2 minutes and plated up the mash. I added the sausages and then the beans as my timing was spot on. I ate it watching Bargain Hunt. At 1.00 pm I returned to the computer and drew a sigh of relief that it seemed to have sorted itself out. My cleaner arrived so I decided to stay out of her way and work. I was able to complete the email I’d had to stop at before. Sharon left at 3.00 pm and I broke off work for a while. Not for long though as I wanted to be finished by 4.30 pm. I got a message about 6.00 pm the Mike was on his way. He arrived at 8.45 pm so I had time to make his coffee before retreating to my room to finish my emails for the night. Guess what! Mystic Mog is back again, for a small fee and since she knows me so well she’ll be able to tell me all my lucky spots in the next couple of months so I know when to buy lottery tickets, She’s obviously never dealt with OCD before and doesn’t know I have a routine.
Unhappy today as I was up at 1.50 am and nothing was going to convince my body I needed more sleep just then. I did emails till 3.00 am then went to take my tabs and refill the dishes with a new weeks supply. Breakfast next and I stuck to toast with some jam on one slice.Back to the emails and by 5.30 am my body decided to be tired so I sat in my chair in the lounge and dozed for hours and hours or until 6.10 am, whichever came first. Emails came and went until 6.55 am when I went to put the kettle on and at 7.00 am I called into Mike’s room that his coffee was ready and on his table. At 8.00 am we were both ready to go out and Mike took me to Chester to meet Yvonne then stayed and had his breakfast with us. I was in awe of Yvonne (on her diet tut tut) tackling a breakfast of blueberry pancakes and maple syrup, there were 3 (large) plate sized thick pancakes. She just about made it to half way then Mike had a little go as he’s finished his bacon sandwich by then. I know certain people will be asking themselves the question but no, all I had was a latte. Yvonne had a lot of bags by the time we finished and remarkably I had just one though I was helping to carry hers. She walked me to my bus stop to see me safely aboard where I wouldn’t be disturbed and we were off, me waving goodbye wildly. Her shaking bags in my direction. I got home, had a wee, made my lunch ( don’t ask) then started work again. I wasn’t able to move from my seat until 4.40 pm Mike arrived home soon after 6.30 pm I got him to watch The Antique Road Trip where one of the experts had bought a small box with a scientific instrument inside, it cost him £60. Bidding at the auction started at £1000 and ended with a new record of £20,000. Had a shower, watched Mastermind then came through to work.
Up for some reason at 1.38, sleep hadn’t even reached the interesting part. Not that I can usually remember anything interesting anyway. Medical opinion comes down firmly on the side of , We all dream. The period is recognisible from when REM starts. For me their music is welcome at any time but I wonder if all these doctors know how hard it is to check for REM when most of us sleep with the light off. Shining a torch in someone’s face tends to wake them up grumpy by the way. Michael got up at 6.20 am with the not so subtle tones of me yelling his coffee was ready and going cold. Somehow he’d managed to balls up his alarm again. We were out at 7.15 am and in full shop mode at 7.30 am. We were in our second supermarket and ordering his breakfast by 9.00 am. I even had a teasted toecake myself. Shopping took most of the morning which of course includes our stop at Temptations in Flint. From there we went for lunch at The Dragon’s Rest, I had some bacon while Mike tried some chicken and ham pie. Afterwards Mike needed something for his shoes so we stopped off in Holywell. At home after putting the shopping away, I left Mike to see if he could get his football while I worked.
Mike set his alarm for 7.00 am. Once I’d heard it ring I went through to wake him, tell him to turn it off and go back to sleep. I didn’t have to tell him twice. I’d checked outside the front door first and though it wasn’t raining then, it hadn’t long stopped. My phone said showers all day though the computer just said light cloud. I’d sooner believe my eyes. I just carried on working and getting up to date. He got up about 10.30 am and I was doing OK then. We left about 11.45 am to head for our carvery lunch. After lunch a visit to TK Maxx got Mike two storage jars with vacuum seals that looked really good. Back at home it was Joey’s lucky day, his cage was due for a clean. After debating whether to do it with him in or out I said out was better but this time we closed the lounge door so we weren’t sending search parties after him. It went well and I sat with Mike until he did the weekly flowers for Ju and he was ready to go. As soon as I waved him off I flew into my room to start work again. Amazingly it didn’t take above an hour and a half then I was able to watch a very entertaining Jack the Giant Killer. 9.00 pm my usual quit time I said goodnight to Joey and the dogs and came back through again.
Lets try and make it a little more sane this week. Kneel (if you can) to show support for colour equality. The shootings and the killings have to stop. It’s outrageous that no-one bats an eye when it happens to a black person( or hispanic) but there’s an outcry for a white person. All races living there are Americans and are deserving of the protection of the law and of fellow Americans. Share the Hugs and Smiles with everyone and have a great and rewarding week.
Sunday 23rd August 2015.
Apart from one blip at 1.58 am when I fell over a candle stand and woke both Mike and I think myself, the night was reasonable. I had to sit with a cigarette to prepare myself for going back to bed at that time but in the end I didn’t get up until 5.52 am. That’s getting on for the four hour mark again. After a visit to the loo I fired up the computer and sat while it ….did nothing. For some reason I had to restart and then try three times before the net came up. I started catching up on emails and posts as well as comments on last night’s blog, I accepted I wouldn’t get too far. At 6.30 am I went to take my meds and to have some breakfast. I know what time we’re supposed to arrive at Yvonne’s but no idea what time we’re eating. At 7.00 am I gave my face quite a surprise by taking it for a shave. It’s been so long since I looked at it there were one or two nicks on unrecognised wrinkles. I returned to work after that as it provided the sit down I badly needed.
At 8.30 am I went to the kitchen and made Mike a coffee which I took through. I had a very one sided conversation reminding him he was next to have a shave. When I thought I’d done enough to ensure he was awake I left. A few minutes later I heard him get up and go through to the lounge. I finished a couple more messages and went to join him and to let Joey out of his cage. When Mike was ready to go for a shave I nipped back to work for a few minutes. At 9.30 am we had to get dressed and I got Mike to help me on with my shoes, I was wearing jeans I could barely bend in to keep my legs hidden. We left at about 10.00 am and the journey only took around half an hour. When we arrived there was no answer at the door and I was worried I had the wrong day. My nieces arrived minutes later to say they were all at the bus station seeing off Ugo’s sister, the lovely Janet. The girls had they key but as Mike and I went to the car to get the gifts, Ugo, Yvonne and Reuben arrived. My legs got a lovely hug from Reuben when he saw me. I was able to give Yvonne her shoes which she said she loved and looked forward to wearing them. In the lounge we all gave Reuben his birthday presents and he was a little overwhelmed. He did seem to love looking through all his new books and he certainly knows some of the stories. we had lunch and Reuben went for a sleep. The girls went for a quick wander round Chester leaving us with the Belgian Grand Prix. When the girls came back Reuben was up so we had birthday cake. He made a great job of blowing out his 2 candles.
Soon it was time for us all to go. With hugs from the girls they left for home and then Mike and I did the same. We could hear Reuben’s displeasure as we walked down the street to the car. It was pouring with rain the whole journey but nothing holds Mike up so we flew past other traffic. By flew I mean the tyres didn’t connect with the ground. Once home I let him settle in front of the TV ( and face the displeasure of the bird) while I started playing catch-up with my mail. After an hour and a half I was able to join him for two hours then back here for an hour. I joined him towatch part of a film then dedicated the rest of the time to work and the blog. It’s going to be an early night.
It was almost 1.00 am when my light went out this morning after a trip to the loo. I noticed Mike still gaming on his pad. It probably wasn’t to long before sleep came as I’d missed my naps yesterday. There were tips to the loo at 1.56 am and at 2.32 am and at 3.38 am which is when I got up after being unable to settle after yet another visit. At 5.30 am after dealing with my gmail I was thinking I was sorry I hadn’t tried harder. At 6.15 am when I brought my talktalk mail under control I did try again. I lay down on the bed and slept until 7.50 am. That brought me almost to the four hour mark. For once I didn’t need a trip to the loo so I was able to go straight through to the kitchen and take my sprays and morning tablets. I decided against breakfast and just made a coffee to bring back where I spent another hour catching up and a little time on ebay where I’d missed another buy last night by forgetting to go through and bid at 8.15 pm. I missed an item that ended up going for £22.00 that was worth more. Rashly I bid on another item that was more expensive for 5.27 pm tomorrow. I expect to lose that one so was searching for an alternative for today. No joy.
Mike got up at 9.30 am so I went through to make him a drink. At 10.00 m we watched Homes Under the Hammer and it was only when it finished he decided to ask what was planned for today. I had no plans but said I’d fall in with most anything he wanted. I know better than to offer carte blanche. As he came up with the suggestion of going to Wrexham I came up with the idea of going to an antique centre outside Wrexham that he’d enjoyed. I wish he’d stay out of my head. We settled on that and as I went off to get my socks and shoes on, Mike went to get dressed. It was 11.30 am before we rolled out of here. As we were getting close he decided to check out jewellers in the town centre so we parked up. It was great to find that in some places we could park on double yellow lines for 3 hours using my card. We parked outside a cafe and as it was 12.30 pm went in so I could take my tablet and eat. It was quite basic but clean and pleasant. It turned out the food was good too. We tried 4 jewellers but had no luck after lunch. After so much walking around I was glad to get back in the car for the antique centre. There was a little cafe inside where we had a drink to fortify ourselves then we started going round all the sections. Some very interesting stuff but no jewellery of the type Mike wanted. It’s back to the internet I think unless he has more success in jewellers when he goes home on Wednesday. We drove home.
It was 4.30 before we got in and I had to go straight to work. Only until 6.00 pm though when the second lot of quizzes were on. I ended up staying until 8.00 pm when one of Mike’s programmes came on and I was able to come back to work.Even that only lasted until 9.00 pm when Hellboy came on. Mike hadn’t seen or heard of it before. I enjoyed seeing it again though I regretted doing so as it didn’t end until 11.15 am. I came through at the gallop to do the blog and if I have any stamina, the messages after.
It was 1.15 am when the light went off last night. It was a real fight as I’m getting close to the end of my book and wanted to carry on reading. I know if I so so that it means buying more books though. Maybe I’ll stop being such a neanderthal and try my tablet in bed. There’s just something special to holding a physical book in bed though. I paid one last visit to the loo and found Mike was going to sleep though he did ask if I was OK. This morning I was up at 4.07 am and after the first visit of the day came back to sign into the computer and my gmail. I was up to date just before 6.00 am and went to get some breakfast and take my tablets. After that I returned to work with a coffee until both my email accounts were clear, about 7.00 am, then I went to sit in the lounge to shut my eyes for a while. It worked. I woke at 8.10 am and felt much better though I was reminded I need a pouffe or something to raise my legs…..or I suppose I could just recline the chair? Mike came through at 8.30 am which gave me quite a shock though he also promptly fell asleep in his chair. I turned an episode of Frasier on and Mike slowly came round after I’d made him coffee.
We were expecting a visit from Mike’s daughter, my niece Lisa today so no plans had been made to go out. It was only at 10.30 he found out she wasn’t coming We continued to watch Homes Under the Hammer and Mike saw no need to get dressed. At 11.00 am I came through to see to mail and Mike decided at 11.30 am to have a shower. Then we decided what to do with the day. Mike had a fancy to eat at the CookHouse in Prestatyn and I certainly wasn’t going to turn down a carvery. I suggested walking up town and looking at the jewellers there. We set off at about midday and parked up near M & S then walked over from there. The meal was delicious and I ate till I was fit to burst. Then we walked up the High Street. We found a small jewellers neither of us knew about and we had a look at a few rings though none were what Mike was looking for. Unfortunately, one was just what I was looking for and Mike was not impressed that I’d been lucky AGAIN. He went into three places but had no luck. I think we’re going to try my suggestion of finding the ring he has which the stone went missing from, and buy a London Topaz of the right size to replace it. One of the jewellers actually said they’d do that for him.
We came home. I immediately started catching up so I’d be in time to watch the quizzes with Mike. I made it bar the first minute or so. It was pretty much a repeat of the early viewing of last night. 3 quizzes followed by two MASH episodes before I came back through at 8.00 pm to catch up again. When I did I rejoined Mike for an old episode of Jonathan Creek. After that at just 10.15 pm I called it a night to come and do the blog. I might check any emails later given time though I’m still not happy with TalkTalk who’ve done anything but improve the experience for me with their changes. I’m lucky when I log in if I don’t get a message that they can’t log me in to that server and to check my account settings. It’s also prone to signing you out very quickly and with no warning. Just awful. I may take to just using gmail.

It wasn’t me Lemme out !
I finished one book and started another last night, finally turning my light off around 1.15 am. I woke up for trips to the loo at 2.55 am and 3.40 am both times finding Mike was still wide awake gaming on his tablet. Sometimes being awake is self fulfilling if the mind is stimulated which is why it’s better to try relaxing instead. I was determined to go back to sleep on both my trips and managed to easily the first time. When I was finally ready to get up it was 5.14 am at which time I didn’t need the loo so don’t know if Mike was asleep by then. I know after a few minutes I was wishing I’d stayed asleep. I powered up the computer and logged into my talktalk mail. It came up this morning and allowed me to deal with one message but then wouldn’t allow me to delete and move on. It said I’d timed out and so I had to log out again. So frustrating. It worked fine before they decided to improve things. More frustrating is that you can’t email the problem as they have phone lines for problems which of course I can’t use. I am going to change to my gmail account only. The major frustration of having to deal with Indian call centres for problems with the internet and phone lines means I’ll be looking to change my ISP soon too.
At about 6.00 am I went to take my meds and saw that Mike was still awake. I asked if he wanted a coffee in the hopes that the warmth might encourage some sleep. Since he was travelling home today I didn’t want him driving while tired. Once I’d taken my meds I took a coffee back to my room to carry on with mail. That carried me through until 8.10 am. When I went to take my mug back to the kitchen Mike was at last asleep. It was going to be a peaceful morning and my best excuse yet to tell the housework to take a hike! The peace only lasted until 10.15 am for two reasons. my set top box suddenly decided to stop working thus taking the TV off during Homes Under the Hammer meaning I was left cursing, and also Mike got up despite having had so little sleep. In some ways his arrival was fortuitous as he was able to disconnect the box and set the TV to work back on my old Sky box, unfortunately not until after my programme was over. I was still huffing and puffing a bit when lunchtime approached. I took a pre-foodie and set about making sausages with sweet potato mash, baked beans and onion gravy for lunch. Mike and I watched the Bargain Hunt while we ate and since he was with me I didn’t dare fall asleep before the end.
I did however nod off for a few minutes only not long afterwards. On waking I came through to do some catching up on the post as I don’t want a big backlog when Dil is here. I rejoined Mike in the lounge about 2.45 pm just before he chose to get dressed and pack his case. He left about 3.20 pm and I was quite worried about him driving that distance on just a couple of hours sleep. Last thing he said when he left was “Text you later when I’m home bro.” I came back to the computer and stayed here until 4.00 pm dealing with mail and having sneaky looks on ebay. Being of a very well behaved nature (ahem) I didn’t buy anything….but only because I was outbid. Dil arrived at 4.30 pm and it just happened I was in the kitchen so his cuppa was almost ready before he got to say hello. We nattered a bit about our week and also watched an antique programme before our quiz started. At 6.00 pm prompt I managed to find a way of turning the TV off using the correct remote and we got the games table out. The first 6 games of Yahtzee it was 3 all so we had to go again. I ran through to my room to print off some more sheets. The second six games went to me 4-2, one of them even upsetting him when I got 3 Yahtzees in the same game. Out came the Trivia. He was four pieces in before I got my first though we arrived at the sixth not far apart. He reached the middle and answered a question correctly to win the game though. It would have been honours even had it not been we had some time in hand. We chanced a game of Cribbage and I was lucky enough to win that. He didn’t even slam the door on the way out. It’s a great night for me when he comes.
At 9.45 pm I decided I needed something to eat and my second set of diabetic tabs so I had a curry sauce and chips. It went down well. I washed up, took my evening meds and came through to work.It was 10.10 pm . I did mail to half past then turned to the blog. I ca catch up on the mail in the morning if needs be. Mike won’t be here until late evening probably.
Playing with water.
Out for a drive.
A surprisingly restful night with no unexpected trips to the loo. I was up at 4.09 am and quickly ready to make up for that lack. On return I signed into my bank to make sure the DWP had no more surprises for me, they didn’t but nor have they yet returned to me the money they owe me. Next I started on my gmail which proved to be quite easy going. As I had sent out an email telling some people of my new email address I also checked there were no important messages on talktalk before deleting them all. Naturally, doing that, everything worked OK today. The first set of mail took until 6.10 am and I chose that point to go and have breakfast and to take my morning meds. When I returned I found the mail had been busy while I was away. There was also an excellent post about a true hero. A black American who fought in France in WWI and was wounded and yet carried on and trained as a pilot in the French air force as the U.S. Air Force wold not accept black people. In WWII he was a spy in Paris and yet he remains largely unknown. This was a definite reblog. The new batch of post kept me occupied until 8.05 am. I went through to feed and release Joey.
Once done I sat down for a while to talk to Joey. I’m determined he’ll land on me one day. But, it didn’t take long before I nodded off even though it was for less than 15 minutes. At 9.00 am I came through to get dressed. I couldn’t bear socks though and even put my shoes on without which did actually make it less of a struggle to get them on. I took a walk over to Pauline’s for my new lottery tickets and some fresh bread. Somehow some jelly beans also slipped into my bag and Pauline had charged me before I could put them back. Never mind, I’ll force myself. On return I did a few more emails then went to watch Homes Under the Hammer which of course I missed yesterday when the TV went Kaput. I talked to Joey continually and I got the occasional reply but said in a voice that made me quake. I wasn’t in favour. I saw the problem, his millet had fallen out of the clip and Joey was too idle to climb down his ladder to eat it. I slowly put my hand in the cave and was nearly shaved as he shot past me. I clipped the millet back up and hoped I’d be in favour again. At 11.00 am I left to come back to my messages and hopefully to catch up by lunchtime. I finished at 11.55 am.
Lunch was an easy affair with just a corned beef hash being thrown in to the ‘Bing machine’. I watched Bargain Hunt while I ate and once the washing up was done I settled in the chair and Bingo, the programme was over and I’d missed the last auction. I didn’t sleep for more than ten minutes and woke to Joey doing a war dance and giving his little mirror hell. The millet was down again. I think he’s doing it on purpose now. I came back to work at 1.00 pm and stayed until 4.30 pm when there was an antiques programme on. I stayed there straight through until 7.00 pm. Mike sent a text to say he was on his way back so I knew to expect him about 9.00 pm unless of course the flight paths were clear. I even left the room with Joey chunnering at me because the millet was down below again. It would have to stay there for now as he was back in the cage and showing no signs of budging. I’ll see if he’s out a little later on. At 8.45 I left to go and put the kettle on ready for Mike’s arrival, and to prepare his mug. It was 9.15 when he walked in. Having seen him coming I was ready for him. We talked about the latest threat from his doctor over his smoking and it made me so grateful I rarely see mine. We watched a fascinating programme on some mass burials found in the catacombs of Rome, discovered after a water main had burst and brought down the roof of one tunnel. They were from the period 1st to 3rd C AD. Not victims of violence it was a puzzle why there were so many interred in an unusual way. It seems they were probably hit by plagues. There were also women there and tests showed they came from all over, not just Rome. In the end it showed that they were the special Cavalry who protected the Emperors who held high status because of their skills and were buried with their wives. Constantine wiped them out in the 3rd C so there were no burials after that date. After watching Law and Order (Special Crimes Unit) I came through at 11.00 pm to do the blog and any mail I could manage.
Little boy lost.

Because I started late last night I didn’t get to open my book until 12.15 am. I still closed it at 1.00 am to get some sleep. It took a while to drop off with my legs itching. I woke again at 2.57 am and this time with a raging toothache which the clove gel fought a losing battle against. Still, being up at that time meant I had a heads up on my emails after a trip to the loo. At 5.20 am when the first batch had been dealt with I was able to go through and take my morning meds and prepare my meds for the next week. That took until 5.55 am. No way was I going to have breakfast today though. For a change I sat with my coffee in a darkened lounge watching the outline of Joey sleeping on his swing.Naturally enough I nodded off until 7.10 am at which time it was light enough to follow Joey’s hints and let him out. The moment he left the cage I was able to retrieve the millet again and hang it back up. It was funny watching Joey circle the room but not have the courage to land anywhere unfamiliar. Instead he returned to the mirror and his argumentative companion.
At 8.30 am I took a coffee through to Mike. I wanted to give him the chance to move earlier. He came through to the lounge about 8.50 am and we talked for a while about his meds and what the doctor had said. We watched a couple of episodes of Frasier and I was about to turn the TV off and miss Homes Through the Hammer when he said “I suppose I’d better make a move”. I agreed and carried on watching. When he was dressed and ready to go I told him to drive carefully. I didn’t want him rushing because he was late to pick up his sister. I did another hour on messages before making my lunch at midday. When I say make, I mean bung in the microwave . I watched Bargain Hunt while I ate and managed to see the auction part without falling asleep. However, that happened withing 5 minutes of turning off. Joey woke me at 2.05 pm and I came back through to work. I stayed until 4.30 pm when I was almost clear.I stayed away until 7.00 pm then after Mike had texted to say he was on his way back, I had a catch up on the computer. I was really cross with myself for not coming back through to bid on a ring that was due at 5.27 pm. It would have made a great Christmas present . My memory is awful, I’d swear I have one of the elderly diseases if I could remember any of them……..and if I were elderly.
At 8.00 pm I locked the front door and went for a shower. I’d only been in the bathroom for two minutes when I heard Mike come back. He came straight into the bathroom as he was desperate for the loo. Then he obligingly washed my hair and half drowned himself in the process. I finished my shower and went through to make him a coffee all the time asking how his day had been with his Dad and his sisters, the youngest being over from Canada today. Then we sat and watched Would I Lie To You and the latest episode of Ripper Street before I came through to catch up and do the blog. I left Mike laughing his head off at some comedy/news show.
Loaded with painkillers I put my light out at 12.30 am last night. I managed to sleep until 3.54 am when I woke up needing my early morning trek and also some more painkillers. As well as some co-codamol after an hour I’m topping up with Disprin Direct which having seen them on the shelves of the local £ Shops for a period I’m guessing have stopped being made. I’m devastated if that’s the case as I think they’re not just a great painkiller but are fantastic in that they’re chewable and need no water. So it doesn’t matter where you are, you can always clear a headache. Another bonus is the taste which is a little like lemon so no disgusting aftertaste. Anyway, the adverts are now over, I signed into my emails online and started clearing them. I’d finished the first lot by 5.30 am and moved to my other mail account which only took 40 minutes. So, at 6.10 am I went through to the kitchen to take my meds for the day and to make myself a coffee. I also prepared Mike’s mug ready for the 6.30 am wake up call.
When his alarm went off I took the coffee through and woke him. After that I forgot about him while I concentrated on the bons, the big one for household rubbish and the smaller for food waste. When I came back in the house I was drinking my coffee and by 6.50 am realised Mike had disabled his alarm. I went to give him another call. He was disorientated when he woke but recognised the words cold coffee easily. He got up. I suppose it’s 1 A 2 C today though really I feel cheated as there should have been another ignored alarm in there somewhere. He sat with his drink while I went to get dressed and to catch up with any post (8) that had come in since I’d gone to wake him. It was definitely a slow start this morning but we were actually on our way out at 7.30 am with all the rubbish bins and bags out ready for collection.
When we got to ASDA Mike went for the trolley while I raided the cash machine. When the sledgehammer didn’t work, I used my card. We made a start. Mike went to get my pop from a display nrar the door while I went to get sweet potatoes. We arranged to meet by the flowers. We found 3 bunches of flowers that should go together well and make a nice display for Ju. Next I splashed out £2 on a teeshirt in the sale. I’m now a Tonka man. For some reason at that point we both decided we were dry. That meant flying round the foodstuffs and then heading for the cafe . While Mike ordered the coffee I went to get my cigarettes. When we’d finished the drink, Mike went for his cigarettes. We loaded up the car and headed for Flint. After parking up outside Temptations we walked over to Homie’s so I could get a LooBloo and a couple of other things. Then we went to the pet shop so Mike could get some fish food and I got Joey a seed bell in reserve. He’s nearly done with his current one. We moved on to B&M where I can’t remember what I bought and then onto Temptations for a drink and Mike’s teasted toecake breakfast.
After bidding the girls and Kyle goodbye, we searched a couple of shops for some tablets I needed. Though I’m taking the painkillers I also wanted some Disprin Direct as a top up about an hour behind the main tablets. It seemed to work yesterday. Not so much today as the pain is constant. I’m pretty sure there’s an abscess there. As Mike is still in search of his ring, we decided to make a trip to Rhos on Sea today. The drive there was quite nice using back roads and having the windows open. I wasn’t ready to trust the weather and have the top down. We had lunch at a well established place on the sea front and from there wandered round 2 antique shops that deal in jewellery and 2 jewelers. No joy still but he was advised to buy an old solid ring with something like a garnet in and then have a jeweler replace the garnet with his London Blue Garnet. I reminded him while we were looking that there are two other choices of stone he can have………just in case he really gets desperate.
It was about 4.00 pm we moseyed home again and unpacked the shopping to put away. I was able to excuse myself then to come and catch up on the mail. I found it very hard to concentrate and there were far fewer comments made than usual for which I hope to be forgiven. I went back through to keep him company at 7.00 pm. We watched the celebrity edition of a quiz towards the end of which despite the pain from my face I nodded off. When I woke, it was towards the end of an episode of ‘Lewis’ and my face had swollen considerably. I even told Mike he could have my two chocolate eclairs if he wanted. I left him at 10.00 pm so he could watch football and I could concentrate on catching up before doing the blog.
The Family. Reuben, Ugo and Yvonne.
Have a Wonderful New Week filled with Hugs, luck, love and Happiness.
3.34 am this morning. I was awake and couldn’t go back to sleep but didn’t feel as though I should be awake yet. As I went to the loo I could see Mike was OK. Light on, fan going and piledriver snore working at full capacity. At least I knew it wasn’t an earthquake. I set to work on my emails and checking comments from this week’s blog. I just kept going steadily. I finished the first mail box at 6.10 am and went to the kitchen to take my meds. It had been raining hard throughout the night and had eased off at that time. It was fairly light but when I spoke to Joey he wasn’t interested. I’m bloody sure Mike trained him to stay in bed to irritate me before he brought him here. I took my coffee back to the bedroom and started the second mail box and refreshed the first. By 7.40 am I was clear on both. A quick look at ebay but the feeling I shouldn’t be awake yet reasserted itself. I took my cup through to the kitchen and settled in my chair in the lounge. Joey still wasn’t fully up but did at least move a shelf lower.
I kept talking to Joey but he wasn’t wasting his words this morning. He did cock his head to show he was listening though. I shut my eyes and drifted away.I wasn’t asleep and I did hear Mike get up and come through to put the kettle on. He didn’t speak, thinking I was asleep which was nice of him but I couldn’t rouse myself to show him I was awake either. This went on for a while until finally I was able to open my eyes and say hello to him. Joey started and we were both concentrating on him for a while. I kept wanting to blank out again but didn’t.
We checked Jen would be in this morning so we could drop off her birthday present. She would so at 9.45 am we got dressed and left at 10.00 am. When we got there Lee invited us in and made a drink while Jen was feeding the baby. When she came down it was obvious how much he’s grown though he’s still a small baby and he has a delightful smile. We actually stayed a good while though I hadn’t wanted to disturb them really. But, eventually we headed off to Broughton to see if I could find a glass vase to sit inside the hurricane lamp stand that MuJo had bought me which had had the accident. I chose one which came quite close and it looks fine now. I also had a birthday gift to buy so we went to a couple of shops till I found what I wanted. By then it was almost 1.30 pm and I was hungry. Lunch beckoned. We went to the pub we generally use if we’re here. Mike swore he’d stay away from the mashed potato he says are always powdery then promptly ordered a roast lamb steak dinner with mash. I had my usual bangers and mash though had to contend with four roast potatoes a stuffing ball and a Yorkshire Pudding Mike dumped on me that he says he’d never manage. It was nice though.Coming out it was almost 3.00 pm and we headed for home. I caught myself nodding in the car.
Usually when I get in the first thing I do is go to work. Today I sat in my chair and zonked. It was almost 6.00 pm when I woke (reluctantly) and Mike was ready to leave. When I’d waved him off I did go to work and stayed there till 8.15 pm when I had to have my tea. Joey was back on his top perch again so wasn’t answering any chatter. I ate my tea, watched a documentary about a newly discovered 17thC burial ground in London, washed up and went back to work. I’m still at it. The emails I finished at 10.40 pm and then started the blog. I hope it’s not going to be like this all week.
A 3.11 am start with a low scream from my bladder that it was time to move a bit faster than usual. I made it but not with much to spare. The sigh of relief sounded like a breeze blowing through the place. I came back and fired up the computer and started responding to all the emails from those who have day while I have night. I intended to stay on top of things today. At 5.30 I went through and took the morning meds and found I’d forgotten to take last night’s. None of you reminded me did you? Since it was still fairly early, and what Mike would call the middle of the night I was half tempted to take them there and then. Only the fact I have problems enough kipping after lunch put me off. I took the opportunity to sit down by the cage and talk to Joey even though I knew he wouldn’t talk back or even come down from his high perch at this time. Mind you, once I’d been ignored enough I took my coffee through and carried on working.
By 7.25 am I was as up to date as it’s possible to get without creating tweets or new blogs of my own. I decided against doing that and went through to the lounge instead. Joey had come down to the mid perch and was hanging upside down trying to get the last bits of millet off the sprig. I swear he’s part bat. He talks to me or rather sings to me when I sit in my chair but stops the minute I sit near the cage. I sat with my hand inside for a while but he wasn’t going to get that close. Next time I’m going to try putting some millet on it and see what happens. Either that or I’ll have to try opening the cage door so he can fly out and hope he chooses to land on me at some point or goes back into his cage to eat/drink when he wants it. I want to see as little progress and I hate seeing him stuck in the cage.
At 9.00 am I took a walk to the chemist’s to deliver my prescription request. It didn’t take long as I managed to avoid the temptation of going into Pauline’s for a chips and curry sauce and some packets of jelly beans which are very addictive. Neither are good for you. Back in the house I worked till 10.00 am then watched Homes Under the Hammer while Joey alternated between singing for me and giving me a telling off. I came close to nodding off a couple of times but he put paid to that. I have to make sure it doesn’t happen at 1.00 pm today as I have bids in for something on ebay. At 11.00 am I went back to work again while waiting for the warden to visit. She arrived about 11.20 am and stayed until midday. Joey had decided to be very vocal during her visit so he got plenty of compliments. If I’d known that being noisy was all it took I’d have tried it years ago. As soon as she’d gone I set about making my lunch which today was a corned beef hash followed by a strawberry jelly I’d made yesterday accompanied with evaporated milk. There was half a large punnet of strawberries in it because I couldn’t eat them over he weekend and Mike wouldn’t have his share without me eating in case I used this blog as a platform to make him sound a pig. As if Michael !! Once Bargain Hunt was over I dashed back to my room to bid on ebay something due at 1.02 pm. I won it by my bidding in the last ten seconds. I stayed here till 2.15 pm catching up and then went back to see Who Do You Think You Are only to find it’s one I’ve seen recently.
A little distracted by a few chirrups from Joey when I tried to close my eyes I decided to risk opening the front of his cage and letting him out. He didn’t waste any time. He flew straight out, ignoring the hand I proffered as a staging post. He was zipping back and forth trying to part my hair until he spied the big mirror. Flying towards it he met himself coming the other way and like a cartoon he splatted against the glass and slid down it. Shock sent him flying again until he rested on top of a large canvas on Ju and myself on the wall. Moments later he was off again and flying towards the mirror.Sometimes landing on top of it which was fine and sometimes landing on the lower frame so he could talk to his reflection and tap beaks with himself. It went on all afternoon. I did nod off for a few minutes and during that time he went back into the cage. As I woke I went to close the cage but before I got there he was off again. I tried getting out a spray of his millet and holding it out for him to land on my hand to eat but that didn’t work so I just put it in place of the stripped bare one in the cage. I had to leave the room for a while to bring the mail up to date but I returned there in time for my 5.00 pm quiz.
I stayed in the lounge until 10.00 pm trying during the adverts to persuade Joey to return to the cage. Not that he understood me of course but you always live in hope. At one point he landed on the cage and I thought he might go in but the thought of talking to the bird that mimicked him in the mirror proved too strong. When I decided I couldn’t carry on climbing all over the furniture and didn’t want to risk scaring him, I turned a lamp on and left him. What he might do to himself in the dark was worrying. I’ll stick my head in from time to time as long as I’m awake and if I find he’s gone to eat or drink I’ll try and lock him in until I get back tomorrow. But at 10.00 pm I had no choice but to come back to my room to try and get the post up to date so there isn’t too much in the morning, and I need to do the blog as well. I have the feeling this may be a late one.
To eat or not to eat? Before the squiggle gets them.
The smiley duck.
I seemed to stare at the clock for a long time this morning trying to make sense of 3.12 am. I knew it couldn’t be three minutes past twelve as I was awake later than that last night but try as I might,I couldn’t seem to find a logical way of deciphering the time from that combination. It’s really odd because I’d mastered the very difficult concept of 3.11 am yesterday with no bother. Perhaps 3.12 am is advanced mathematics at my age. In actual fact it took turning my bedside light on for me to see the light despite the time being displayed on the clock in large numerals which are lit up in bright blue. As soon as that light was on I understood the great mysteries of time. I was able to swing my legs out of bed and make my way to the Piddle Palace before it was too late.
There was much more post from last night than I expected and it took a while to do it before I could start work on today’s. Because I was going out I didn’t want to be in a rush so worked till 5.30 am before going through to take my meds ( and yes, I found last night’s still there again) and also to have some breakfast which today was Cornflakes.I stood in the doorway between the kitchen and the lounge to eat them watching Joey. Perhaps I hoped he’d become one of his predecessors and come to help himself but he didn’t move. I just hope he moves into the cage as it becomes light enough. I’ll have to learn to take my time with him in future. I grabbed a coffee and took it back to the bedroom. It had gone 6.00 am so I started back in on the mail. I intended to have both boxes empty by the time I came to leave the house at 7.30 am though I knew I’d be back to screaming pitch by the time I came home at 1.00 pm. Mike keeps trying to remind me that this is supposed to be a hobby, be fun, but sometimes it doesn’t seem like that. It feels like a job and I have deadlines even if I set them myself. It’s like I have one of those compulsive personalities I used to laugh about saying “Me? no way.”
I was clear to leave at 7.30 am and walked up towards the bus stop via the post box so I could send for an explanation in writing of all the hassle I’ve had from the DWP. I may not be in time to appeal this debt from 2013 but I want to know why they’ve done nothing about it before now, that’s if his isn’t another fictitious debt. I wasn’t at the bus stop long before the bus arrived and I was the only passenger at that point. Great, I sat back with my eyes closed and started to doze. I didn’t wake up kicking the seat in front this week though, Yay, no bruising. Yvonne and Reuben were waiting for me in Chester. Reuben pointed and smiled at me then like someone had turned the light out suddenly frowned and glared at me. I thought I was in trouble but the cloud passed thankfully. We went to our usual store and Reuben pressed the lift buttons then galloped away and parked his bottom on our usual chairs. Just as well no-one else was at the table. We all had drinks and breakfast even though I’d had mine much earlier. From there we had a look round because Roobs needed some new jogging bottoms and Yvonne needed some maternity wear. I was able to pick up a couple of things for Ugo too. Then we had our usual fight as I grabbed everything off her, including her credit card, and with the help of the saleswoman, paid for the items. I’ve never known anyone fight so hard not to have prezzies.
We left there in search of more maternity clothing but I wasn’t allowed anywhere near the counter thereafter on pain of death. Time seemed to be doing OK so we strolled back uptown and decided to go for a cool drink. The cafe is in the rear of a shop so there was time to look at things as we went through and I found some nice gifts for the nieces which I said I’d get on the way out. While we were enjoying the drinks Reuben was walking round close by and spotted a ride on machine. He noticed that just as I noticed my bus was due. I tried to say goodbye and run but Yvonne insisted they’d see me off ( probably to make sure I really left) and called Reuben to come. Once he realised his ride was at risk the siren started until Yvonne said she’d bring him back after he’d said goodbye to pops. That sort of mollified him. I had to fly past the gifts but Yvonne promised she’d pick them up for me. I was in time. I had my kisses goodbye and boarded the bus as Yvonne took Reuben back for a ride of the Fire Truck. The journey home was pretty good but I couldn’t call in at Pauline’s as I was full of cool drink I hadn’t had chance to rid myself of. I’m sure Yvonne predicted that.
At home Joey was still in position on the mirror and I could see he’d been licking his reflection again. I lifted my arm to try to tempt him but all he did was fly over to the canvas picture again, then back as soon as I put my arm down. I left him to it and went to make my lunch. Beef stew with dumplings today. Once finished I went to play a little catch-up with the mail for a while . I was interrupted by a knock at the door and it was the delivery of my drugs for which I exchanged a box of chocolates. A few minutes later another knock and this time it proved to be the annual check on my heating system and gas services. I wasn’t expecting it for another two weeks at least so the airing cupboard where the heater lives wasn’t empty. The young man said no problem, he’d move whatever was needed. And, he’d move the stuff in my little pit to access the gas meter. Brilliant, I could get back to trying to entice Joey into his cage ( and maybe watch Escape to the Country at the same time). I had no luck with Joey but the young man was a s good as his word. After three quarters of an hour he came to get a signature and told me that the vent in the loft was showing some light where the plate met the roof. it would need someone to come and repair it. I thanked him and he left. I went back to work and had no sooner sat down than yet another knock. This time it was Bert with a parcel that had been delivered. It would have gone through the door it was so small but needed to be signed for. I thanked him and opened the envelope to see the ring I’d bid for and won. It fit my pinkie and replaced the one that had flown off and not found when I removed my glove.
After Bert had gone I went through to the lounge to watch something and while I was sitting there I saw Joey come off the mirror and land on the cage. He did it a couple of times to taunt me and then finally went in to savage the millet spray. I made as if to leave the room then slipped behind Joey and shut the cage door. At last ! It’s been over 24 hours. I didn’t even get a telling off really but only because his mouth (beak) was full. I stayed in the lounge until 8.15 pm. It should have been 8.00 pm but I’d nodded off and when I woke didn’t realise it was a different programme I was watching until I caught on that there weren’t any antiques. I turned the TV off just as Joey chunnered at me and I swear he was trying to speak. Nothing sensible of course, just the same rubbish I keep repeating to him. Joey Joey Joey, best, best boy. I was chuffed, though of course I could be deluding myself this early in the game. I came back through to the bedroom and started to attack the mail. A text came through on my phone to see if MuJo could visit tomorrow so I need to clear everything I can so there’s no big backlog in the morning. Oh, a miracle, I remembered to take my drugs tonight too.
When I woke this morning I went straight to the loo then came back and put my dressing gown on, loaded the pockets with sprays, cigs etc then turned to fire up the computer. It was only then I actually noticed the time, 1.18 am. Since my light had only gone out at 12.45 am it didn’t seem I was getting a fair crack of the whip.I yawned, took the dressing gown off and fell back into bed. My next wake up call was 4.23 am which seemed miles better. I did the loo trip again, and again donned the dressing gown, loaded the pockets and powered up the computer. No yawns. I worked on mail until 6.00 am and then went for some breakfast and to take the morning meds. Somehow I managed to miss this mouth with the first batch and ended up chasing them round the kitchen floor. I had to hurry as I didn’t want to find any spaced out field mice tottering round the kitchen later. No worries, as they say in Oz, I managed to find them all including a bonus two lost on previous occasions.
After my breakfast I went to wash the excess butter off my moustache in case I slid off Muriel’s cheek later. Then it was back to work, starting with a re-blog of another authors work. Sometimes it’s nice to feature someone else on the blog. I carried on working until 7.25 am when the post was (temporarily) up to date and I was able to go through to the lounge to talk to Joey. I might just have closed my eyes for a minute or two as well. At 9.00 am I went to Pauline’s, no Mother’s Mafia now the kids are on holiday. I picked up my TV mag, some micro chips,a micro chips with curry sauce, some bread and a supply of cigarettes. She has a great selection of things in there. Back at home I cleared the post again, had a look at ebay and then went and sat with Joey until MuJo arrived. That happened at 11.00 am. I brought drinks in and we chatted for a while before heading out. Muriel needed the post office in Holywell so we went to the chippy for lunch. It was quite pleasant and it’s always quick and hot there. When we came out it was raining so it was back to the car without wandering.
We drove to Flint where Muriel wanted ALDI. I managed to pick up some nice gerberas to pad out Ju’s vase. They looked nice and bright in there. We headed for Temptations where we parked up and walked over to Homies so I could pick up some chocolates for the girls and a couple of other things. In Temptations I passed the chocs to Sian who was looking forward to trying them as she hadn’t seen them before. We sat and had our drinks and in John’s case a cake as big as a side plate too. I finished and went outside for a cigarette while they finished off. When they joined me we went round a couple more shops. I saw a nice freezer and a lovely TV in one. We came home. They stayed with me until about 4.00 pm then left to make their one hour journey back home to Ty Nant. I came through and started to whittle down the mail but I didn’t have as long as I though as Dil turned up about 4.45 pm. I went to make him a cuppa and we sat chatting until the quiz Pointless started. We were both answering questions as it went along. At 6.00 pm the TV went off and the gaming commenced. As usual it was Yahtzee first and that ended unsatisfactorily at 3 games each, rather than move on I suggested we play again which was a huge mistake since I lost 4-2 . I’m having an operation tomorrow to remove my foot from my mouth. Then we went on to Trivial Pursuits. It was a strange game with Dil getting 4 pieces of pie before I had my first but me reaching the full six while he was still on 4. I worked my way round until I could try to return to the middle but the die kept moving me anywhere but. For ages I was always a place or two beyond the middle. When Dil got his sixth piece of pie he started doing the same thing and getting the same result. Eventually at 9.20 pm I managed to get to the middle and Dil picked the card and looked for a question to ask me. I expected sports as I’m lousy on that subject but he chose an entertainment one which I got. As it happens I would have got the sports one as well but there were two on the card I wouldn’t have got. I didn’t care since I’d won and we were honours even tonight.
Dil left at 9.30 pm and I did my usual quick tidy up, washed the pots and took my meds. I had a quick natter to Joey who was settling down for the night and then came through to work. It’s been hard going as the mail took until 11.05 pm and I couldn’t start the blog until then. It’s almost midnight and I’m anxious to get to my bed.
I got up because I didn’t have a choice. It was either that or wet the bed. I wasn’t thrilled as the clock read (I thought ) 3.26 am but I was up. After the loo I nipped into the lounge just to make sure Joey was OK on his perch though I didn’t go close enough to scare him as I didn’t want him trying to fly inside the cage in the dark. All seemed fine so I left him sleeping and came through to turn the computer on. Damn me but she had a headache again. I powered up and just glanced at the clock which now read 2.36 am. I started working on my emails and was doing alright up until I fell asleep over the keyboard. I stayed sitting upright but my chin must have been on my chest because when I woke up at 4.03 am I had neck ache. What was on screen I didn’t remember working on as I thought I’d dealt with that one before. I checked the sent box and came away sighing with relief. I hadn’t sent any messages out in a code no-one would understand, including me. By 5.38 am both mail boxes were up to date, though I knew that state of affairs wouldn’t last long. I decided to go through and take my meds and have some breakfast.
I had toast for breakfast. Cold and slathered with butter which tasted faintly of the strawberry jelly I’d had in the fridge earlier in the week. Once done I took my coffee top the lounge and sat talking to Joey while I drank it. He wasn’t very vocal this morning. I’m going to risk releasing him today again to see if he’ll come anywhere near me rather than just finding a high perch to settle on. I returned to work until 9.00 am when I took a walk to Pauline’s to get some milk and my lottery tickets. Back at home I unpacked and then went through to the lounge and opened the front of the cage. He didn’t need telling twice. As he perched atop the mirror I cleaned his cage out and renewed his seed and water. There was ( somehow) still a little of his favourite food left so I didn’t change it then. I was in and out all morning keeping an eye on my mail and on Joey. He was pretty good and returned t the cage twice on his own. I left the door open for him. It was on the second of his returns that I noticed he finished the spray of millet and I chose that time to stick my hand in to get the old one out. Stupid!! I must have moved too fast and panicked him. He fluttered around the cage ( and I still carried on) and eventually came out like a bullet. I put the new millet in hoping it will get him back in again later so I can close the cage for the night.
I had lunch at 12.00 pm and talked to Joey throughout. He gave me a right bollocking so maybe he objects to conversation while I’m eating. After lunch I had an apple and cut a piece off for Joey. So far he hasn’t shown any enthusiasm for things like that. When Bargain Hunt finished I came back to the mail again. It doesn’t take long to mount up. I could hear Joey talking or maybe shouting and stopped dealing with the mail and left the work till later. When I went back through he stopped. I think he does enjoy the company and the chatter even if he’s not ready to respond to it yet. Given time I think we’ll be OK. Around 3.00 pm I had a text from Mike to say his Dad’s in hospital again. They want to check why his antibiotics aren’t working on his chest infection. It’s very awkward for Mike as he’s with his grandchildren at the moment and will be until at least 6.00 pm, possibly later. Then he needs to drive to his own place to pick things up before he comes up. It could be tomorrow before he gets to the hospital. I hope this isn’t going to mess up his chances of signing for the new place. After that Joey went back to his cage but I left the door open for him and returned to work where I stayed, nose to grindstone until 4.00 pm when I sort of declared a local holiday.
The holiday lasted until 7.00 pm when I found the BBC had removed my antiques show yet again, this time to record a flower show, and not the Chelsea one either. I suppose it was a prompt to leave Joey and the TV behind and do some work but I can tell you I wasn’t a happy bunny until I saw that there was a DIY SOS Big Build on at 8.00 pm. I would have to work hard for the hour until that was on. Just before I went back through to get my eyes squared again I got a text from Mike to say he was on his way. I expect him about 10.30 pm depending upon the traffic. Last week he did the journey in two hours, his best time ever and I bet he wasn’t legal once in the whole journey unless he was at traffic lights, and even then……… I defy anyone to come away from Big Build with dry eyes but I left the lounge in case Joey saw me and took me for a soft touch. You know the kind of thing, pleading poverty just to get some extra millet. I spent an hour catching up on mail so that I could go through at 10.00 pm to wait for Mike and have all the stuff ready in his mug for him. Once I’d said my hellos and made his drink and checked out his week I knew I’d have to excuse myself to do the blog. . I know Mike’s Dad is back in hospital again so I want the full story. Mike arrived at 9.55 pm and I asked him where he’d parked the jet and whether he’d used it in stealth mode to get past the police. I’m not sure why but he said he sensed some sarcasm. No sh*t Sherlock. I got his drink and we nattered till 11.30 pm after which I had to come through again.
After I’d sat at the computer Mike came through as I was selecting the music for last night. He stayed to listen to it and to a few more tracks while I applied the steroid cream to my leg. It was therefore midnight before he left and before I could get back on the computer. It was just after 12.30 am when I was able to close down and go to bed. I was tired. There was still time for a read though and I managed a chapter and a half before my eyes and brain refused to co-operate. That took me to 1.05 am and the light went out. My lights didn’t come back on until 4.43 am this morning so I slept for over 3 hours, miraculous. A visit to Looville then I fired up the computer and started again. I worked till 6.00 am then went to take my meds and being Friday, renew all the meds in my tablet case. It was only when I finished that I decided to have breakfast this morning and took the pre-foodie pill. A bowl of Ricicles with real sugar was a treat. It was 7.00 am before I got back to work but all I managed were the urgent ones as I started to yawn. Thinking I’d get a sleep. I returned to my chair in the lounge.,I came close a few times. The room itself didn’t seem conducive to a sleep without the TV so on it went and I tried to nod to a background of some wonderful classical music ( mainly adverts). That made things easier but Joey doesn’t like the display of pigeon without the display of human to be lacking in case he wants to tell you off. Every time I looked like dropping off there he was ,full voice to stop me. I soon gave up and started watching the TV that was playing. As soon as that happened I dropped off. I woke at 9.00 pm when I heard Mike turn the kettle on. I must have been out for seconds as the TV hadn’t moved on much and Mike had only just come out. Disgustingly I stayed watching until 11.00 am before getting dressed. Mike stopped about 10.45 pm and went to get dressed and take a phone call.I went back to work ans Mike went off to Manchester to see his Dad.
At 12.00 I made lunch then sat with it while I watched Bargain Hunt. Both teams made a healthy profit at auction. Joey was showing what a crosspatch he is by head butting his rival in the mirror which is now covered with budgie saliva. He went back in his cage but I overcame the temptation to lock him in, as it’s my own insecurities I’m dealing with, not his. Work beckoned so off I went. During the afternoon Mike texted to say he’s be late as he was taking his Dad home from hospital. That’s a good sign. I worked until 3.30 pm when the eyes started to close and went through. Joey was quieter and let me nod off but alas not for long. By 4.05 pm I was awake again and having to repeat through gritted teeth what a good boy he was. Mike sent another text at 6.00 pm to say he was on his way.To be honest I didn’t bother going back through and started watching the TV. I was still there at 7.00 pm when it was time to close the TV and go for a shower. Hellfire, I tried to stand and my foot hurt. More one particular toe than the whole foot at first. I managed to get to the bedroom to get my change of clothes and prepare my washing then went for a shower. I had to sit down and like all cowards I approached that gingerly in case the seat was cold. Shower finished I dressed in my Animal lounge pants and went back to the lounge.
Mike arrived back at 7.50 pm ish while I was watching a fascinating programme about our Coast which just happened to be covering the stretch from Holyhead to the Wirral. The next was on the Vikings and as a history one was of interest to us both. Mike quickly told me how the day had gone, I made him a drink and something to eat and we enjoyed the Vikings together.Time moved on to 9.00 pm and I was able to come through for an hour to skip through some mail but I was expected back for a programme at 10.00 pm. I was struggling for time but it was about to get worse when we fond that the programme we’d just watched had another episode on straight after. Aaargghh. It was midnight before we determined the box had to go off and we had to go to bed. At least Mike could go to bed but I had work to do in the shape of the blog. Emails could wait till the morning. Now I’m not even sure I’ll have the time to read and heaven knows what time I’ll get up for shopping. It would be funny if Mike made it before I did,
Despite the lateness of the hour last night ( this morning) and like Cinderella having to run from the ball at midnight I still managed a small read after the blog was done. It was more a case of settling my mind down for sleep really. When I woke I glanced at the clock and found it to be 2.54 am. Much earlier than I’d thought and much earlier than I’d hoped but here I was awake. No urgency about it but a slight message from my bladder did suggest a tour of the facilities to hand. As soon as I returned the computer was booted up and I hit the first of my mailboxes, amazing it took until 3.59 am to empty it and start on the second which was clear at 4.10 am. Why can’t it be this easy all of the time? I decided a visit to ebay was a good idea and treated myself. I looked at frockcoats, signet rings, pocket watches and maybe a new waistcoat ( which I haven’t bought for my collection for ages). I managed to resist the temptation on all of them. At 5.00 am I went through to the kitchen making sure I didn’t ddisturb Joey as it wasn’t dawn then. I took my meds and a pre-foodie tablet then put two slices of bread in the toaster. Lighting a cigarette to use as timer I carried some rubbish through to my recycling bags and then answered an email. Perfect timing the email went off as I finished the smoke. Back to the kitchen and troweled on some butter then ate my toast. Wonderful. I made a coffee, took my two after food tabs and then returned to the bedroom.
By now a little more mail was coming through and I enjoyed a short story by someone as well a a post by my friend Valerie from NZ who had a great post about tea, sitting an oral French exam in front of Chinese nuns and a woman who tried to kill a woman she disliked in a tearoom but still wanted to be served tea. Very entertaining. At 6.30 am Mike’s alarm went off for the first time and I took a coffee through. I made sure to make plenty of comments in the hopes of penetrating the fog and moving him. At 6.40 the alarm went off again, still no movement.Things were looking good. I left it a minute or two then went to inform him the coffee was going cold. I got a half coherent reply and this is the point I’d usually have some luck. I went back to my room and waited, there didn’t seem to be any movement, am I going to get a third alarm today? Answer, Yes but I didn’t get to make my third call. Total 3A– 2C. We left the house a little after 7.30 am today and made a quick run to the Supermarket. We also made quite a quick run round the Supermarket. I just hadn’t been able to think of much to put on the list though I didn’t leave it a 5 bottles of pop which is how it was until I added millet this morning. Somehow the bill still came to more than usual and I’d no clothes in today.Perhaps the strawberries were gold plated. We went for a drink where Mike had great fun waiting for me to get brain freeze. It’s not easy hiding it.
After packing the car we drove to Flint. We moved from clouds and rain into sunshine which was nice, they’d promised a nice day. we parked up and took a walk to Homies and to Jolley’s ( the pet shop) for more millet then went to get our coffee from Temptations. The lovely Sian was on this morning with Kyle. He was near to kipping on the couch after a late night but did get up when I came to the counter. We enjoyed the coffee then drove home early. We had no specific plans in mind today. The subject of what to do next did crop up though after we’d put the shopping away and I’d made an attempt at my mail again. The problem was we were both asking each other what the other wanted to do and the other was saying “What about you”? It shows what boring old farts we’ve become when Mike suggested we look for a new fridge and a freezer and I was able to suggest where. First we drove to a large Supermarket with a cafeteria and ha something to eat then we walked over to a large retail chain shop and priced up their models, none of which were the ones we’d earlier looked at online. I dithered as it was such a large outlay and we came away with nothing except the stains where I’d drooled over a larger TV. We came home.
Once we got in which was about 2.30 pm I left Mike to relax with TV and I came back to work. I seemed to be doing fine but somewhere along the line I nodded off. When I woke I couldn’t even figure out how to get myself out of where I was, or how I’d got there. Last night’s lack of sleep had taken it’s toll. Worse still while I was trying to come round Mike walked in and said “Oh you’re awake again then” and as I hadn’t caught him asleep I had no rejoinder. I was in shame. It was 5.45 pm and he’d come to let me know Pointless celebrity was due on. I cleared the screen gulped at the amount of mail I could see and joined him in the lounge. By 7.00 pm I was back clearing what I could but only until 8.00 pm when something decent came on. Mike went for some bacon and we had sandwiches while we watched a detective programme. I was there till 10.30 pm when I called it a night and made a concerted effort with the post. I was only able to work until 11.00 pm before having to start the blog so there may be a bit waiting for me tomorrow.
