The Wrapper Returns.

Monday.

Up at 2.07 am this morning. Not too bad maybe as I managed to turn my light out at 11.30 pm last night. I know my legs haven’t been treated since Thursday last, but I swear I caught a whiff of damp goat as I was waking. So it’s either my toesies have halitoesis or Somnos has been sending his brother round again.                                                                      At 3.00 am I went through to the kitchen to have my meds then some breakfast. Just some toast again but it was enough. I set the washing machine going, then made a coffee to take back to work. I was keeping an eye on the time to put the clothes on a drying cycle. I remembered in time and set it for an hour and a half. I carried on working until 6.45 am then decided to try 40 winks in my chair. I woke just before 8.00 am and went straight back to work completely forgetting the dry laundry. It was 10.00 am before I remembered and went to get the stuff out, no longer hot and pliable, but cold and wrinkled. I hung it on the airers.                                                                                                     At 10.45 am the nurse arrived. I took the remains of the dressings off and my feet were soaked and washed. I hate that bit because of the pressure applied, ouch, ouch and ouch. No, not three legs just lots of discomfort. I had her take a look at the soles of my feet too and she said there were quite a few ‘cracks’ there. She treated them. I wonder if they normally just do the tops because that problem is obvious. Anyway, she decided my feet were a little wetter than before and it was probably due to not having been done since Thursday, so for now we’re going back to every day changes.                                                    I cheated and had an easy lunch then worked till 3.00 pm. Watched Escape to the Country then worked till my 4.30 pm antiques show. After that I had tea with Joey and nodded off for an hour. I watch a programme called Babylon 5 that I’ve heard about for years but never seen. At 9.00 pm I called it a night and came through to work. At 11.20 pm I decided bed was a good idea.

Tuesday.

I probably got to bed about 11.30 pm and managed to read until midnight last night. It took a little time to get the feet comfortable enough to sleep, but once I did…………………..    It was 3.45 am before I woke up this morning, my longest lie-in for ages. I’ve no doubt someone interceded for me with Somnos.  Meds and breakfast were done straight away before bringing my coffee back to work. And work there was this morning but by 7.35 am I was nicely on top of it. I decided to celebrate with a sit down in my chair but the 40 evaded me so at 8.00 am I returned to work slaving over a hot keyboard.                              At 10.50 am yesterday’s nurse returned with another. They are both nursing sisters by my guess at the uniform and it was to clarify a new care plan based on the change back to daily. Daily for two weeks they agreed before one took out her tweezers, gripped a piece of black flesh across the top of my foot and pulled. She celebrated one continuous piece that had defeated others by removing even more flesh from between my toes. My crossed fingers worked and she didn’t try the big toe which is more wood than flesh now. They left at 11.30 am and my stinging feet were grateful.                                                            My nephew came this afternoon to see if I wanted shopping. He answered the doorbell for me and in came a podiatrist. As Lee went out shopping she started in on my feet. She checked the pulse rate to ensure a good flow of blood. she even cut a couple of nails on one foot but she used a scalpel to clear even more debris from the feet. Talk about sore afterwards. My shopping arrived and Lee put it away for me. Once he podiatrist had finished I cleared her debris and Lee and I enjoyed a game of scrabble. He went home to his wife and sons leaving me at the mercy of the budgie.

takin the strain

Wednesday,

I was in bed for 11.45 pm (post mail) and only read for half an hour before extinguishing the light. Perhaps I should have put the book down first? The stinging had stopped to a large degree and I suspect sleep came readily because I was still holding the book as I woke, and my glasses were twisted at an awkward angle on my schnozzle. I slept until 3.37 am which was again unexpected. I wondered why my female companion was hushing me until I realise she’d sprung a leak.                                                                                After using the puncture repair kit I took my meds and had some breakfast. I brought a coffee back to work and kept going until 7.41 am when things slowed down. I went looking for 40 in my chair. Phew, I found them and they kept me going until 8.30 am(ish) when I returned to work. I was in the lounge about 10.30 am when I noticed a nurse going pas the window carrying a large box. I went to the door but saw that she was at a neighbour’s house.I closed the door and walked back to the lounge. i’d just reached there when the bell rang. I asked if the box was because she was selling my supplies door to door. Luckily she had a sense of humour. I unwrapped my legs being careful not to ladder my stockings while the nurse prepared herself. She was very gentle with me so she obviously knows I’m a virgin on the ridiculous.                                                                       After she’d gone it was getting on for lunchtime so I had a beef dinner from the bing machine. It was surprisingly nice. I saw Bargain Hunt and at 1.00 pm I went back to work . I’d missed a fair bit. At 3.00 pm I was clear so went through to see Escape to the Country which involved inspecting my eyelids from within. At 4.10 pm I just had time to clear the mail box before Dil arrived. I made him a cup of tea and we watched Pointless before the gaming began. Tonight was another honours even so he said we could part friends. I wasn’t sure why we’d change the habits of a lifetime. I tidied up and came through to work finishing at 11.40 pm.

under the tunnel

Thursday.

3.25 am this morning. Reverting more towards what was the main time before. There was a message waiting for me that another blogger has made Somnos an offer so he’s having to leave my side for a while. Our ‘Friendship’ will not be forgotten though. ( shame). I dealt with breakfast and meds straight away before bringing a coffee back to start work. I had a difficult letter to write to someone who considers me ‘stubborn’- me of all people? And who is full of suspicions when I try to be the most reasonable of men. I get the feeling I’ll never win. At 7.41 am I was temporarily clear so decided to occupy my chair in the lounge for forty. I was a little up set to get just twenty as someone knocked on the door at 8.10 am and by the time I gingerly got there, they were long gone. I tried calling out ‘Hello’ in case they heard and came back but all I got was a kind passerby asking if I needed help. I returned to work. At 9.30 am my neighbour Margaret came to the door. She came in for a chat then kindly went to do my shopping. On my return to work I found an email telling me I had  direct message on Twitter. Here’s how it starts……… ….   My name is Mr. Suvo Sarkar, I am Bank Officer here in Emirates Bank of Dubai NBD. I have a business proposal for you which is in connection with your name and you are going to benefit from this transaction which will be of our interest and benefit to our both families. Yet another con that’s finally moved away from Nigeria so naturally I’m going to fall for it now.                                                                                                                                          Nursey arrived at 11.30 am and was very gentle today except when she was apologising for prodding the wrong places to ask if they hurt. She left at 12.15 pm so I found myself trying to watch Bargain Hunt as I was cooking my dinner. Te afternoon alternated between periods of work and periods of sitting down with my legs up. Mike arrived before 6.00 pm so we nattered until 9.00 pm when it was clearance time for the mail.

Friday.

I didn’t do too well this morning though I was desperate to stay where I was, wrapped in the warm with a beautiful dream lingering on the outskirts of memory. But here it was 1.46 am and I was wide awake. Nothing had woken me and I felt no threat so maybe even Somnos wasn’t on the prowl. The only thing to do was get up and start work. That carried me through until 3.00 am when I went through to the kitchen to have a fix and prepare my drugs for the next week. Then I was able to have breakfast and make a coffee to bring through with me.                                                                                                         I worked until nearly 10.00 am then fell asleep when I would normally watch Homes Under the Hammer, luckily Mike likes that too and remembered to turn on albeit late. I was expecting the nurse around the time it ended but she didn’t show, I wondered if it was due to the doppler I was supposed to have. At noon I gave up waiting and made lunch to ear while I watched Bargain Hunt. I’d just started the washing up afterwards, when I didn’t expect the nurse to appear, when she did. Sana doppler which they will now do on Saturday at the hospital for ease. Once the legs were done I finished the washing up and started on the mail again.                                                                                Mike arrived back about  6.00 pm and the lazyitis was so bad he had to make his own drink. We watched Antiques Trip from 7 to 8 and then Mastermind before he washed my hair and left me taking a bath in the sink.. At 8.30 pm I went back to the evening mail and got caught up. It was just gone 11.30 pm before I got near bed and 12.15 am before the light went off. Sleep was along time coming.

Saturday.

Despite it being past 1.00 am before I got to sleep I was not to be allowed concessions. I woke at 2.27 am and was able to take a full minute getting up. As I turned my screen on a message appeared. Somnos, (your) God of Sleep invites you to join him for an evening of fun and gaiety from Midnight 18th November. Bring fruit. Finally I may be about to get to the bottom of his renewed interest in me.I worked till it was time for breakfast, I had just enough butter for two rounds of toast which I had, somehow managing to cremate one of them I held a very quick service with a knife over the waste bin until it looked edible. After taking all my meds I returned to work until 5.30 am. Then I got dressed. Have I mentioned I’m having to make sure whatever I wear on my lower half (excluding my kilt) has legs wide enough to take both legs and dressings. At 5.50 am I was ready and had managed to wedge my feet inside my old velcro slippers. I put the kettle on for Mike and as soon as I heard his alarm I took a coffee through to the lounge for him and went and shouted him. I then started to get all the rubbish and recycling outside. The weather was cold enough to give me my own Newton’s Cradle so I was glad to get back in the warm and shout him a second time. His alarm must have gone off four times as he got up pretty quickly. I retreated to my room and the computer as someone wandering around in just their shreddies at that time of the day requires a stronger stomach than mine.        Shopping went well and was pretty successful in more than food as I picked up a Christmas present for one of my nieces. We went for breakfast (Yes, I don’t need reminding I’d had one, I just can’t see him eat alone). A couple of things in the Morrison’s where the cafe was and we were ready for the off again. I was paying the price for the outing by having to occupy the wheelchair and he was enjoying every moment of the power. In Flint I got another present but not for Christmas this time. I escaped his clutches on my sticks and forced him to follow me into Temptations before doing the last of my shopping, for the freezer and then going home to put it away. Mike refuses to do that because I won’t let him spend on a new freezer for me.                                                       We headed into town to get some special cards then eat at the chippie. Then off to the hospital for the Doppler and new dressings.I was on my way home again about 3.00 pm after a good laugh with the nurses both of whom I know. Work till 5.00 pm then investigate my eyelids for 2 hours in my chair. I finally came back here for catch up at 9.00 pm.

Sunday.

My light went out at midnight and despite a terrible itch across the top of my right foot I was asleep in no time at all. And there I was on the top of a mountain with a bag of tomatoes in my hand and a very cool breeze around my kneecaps. I think the tomatoes were a little rebellion on my part but not recognised as such by Porcinus as he came round collecting tribute to his brother. Was it my imagination or did Porcinus himself look a little bigger (and smell even more of damp goat?). I saw Somnos heading towards me and was tempted to run but I was far too inquisitive as to the reason for this bash with it’s accompaniment of shepherdesses on what looked like pan pipes.                        ‘Ah David’ he said, ‘welcome. This is as much for your benefit as mine. My name is slowly growing towards that of Hypnos, Somnus and Morpheus his son. I am on the verge of becoming a big god and in part it’s down to you. You have my thanks. I would ask for one last effort on your part. Make my name a household word and I shall reward you.’             ‘With sleep’ I asked. ‘Whatever your heart desires’ was his answer. I knew I was returning home then and my knees began to warm. The last thing I heard as I left was ‘And by the way, I noted the tomatoes, most humorous.’                                                              I woke up and it was 4.00 am. I sat on the edge of my bed and couldn’t move for an hour as the thought of Somnos directing the World’s sleep hit home. At 5.00 am I went for my meds and some breakfast carrying an immense sadness inside me. As I ate my Weetabix I was trying to see ways to succeed and get him off my back forever or ways to fail that didn’t look like I’d done it on purpose. Somnos the Musical? But I’d never get one of the hugely talented musicians to write the songs. How about if I disappeared and got him blamed for my murder, ridiculous, not enough people believe in him to get him charged and as a god he wouldn’t have to appear.                                                                                       About 9.30 am Mike got up I left my plotting and went to say good morning. We decided how to proceed with the day. Accordingly we set off at 10.30 am for Prestatyn and went looking for some Christmas presents he wanted help with. We got what he wanted and were nicely in time for lunch at the Cookhouse with the carvery. Afterwards we took a run back to Holywell and checked a shop for a few toys for Christmas presents we both wanted. At 1.45 pm though we headed for the hospital. Anne Marie was on duty again and changed the dressings including the top-socks I now have to keep things from unraveling. She was really pleased at how dry both feet were and no seepage through the bandages. Things are looking rosy though there’s still a way to go. We headed straight for home so Mike could get away for the birthday party for one of his grandsons. It must be the jelly and ice cream that made him rush. I did some catching up then somehow at 7.00 pm found myself in front of the TV watching a Miss Marple programme. That took me to 9.00 pm when I packed up for the night and came to work.

May you all have a great new week. There will be those who need you to share a smile and maybe those in whom you see a greater need. If we bring sharing to the forefront I think Love will follow and then without the politicians and weapons manufacturers maybe the world will be secure for those to follow us.                                                              Hugs to all,

Somewhere over the Rainbow

Monday.

Many of us are aware today of yet another mass shooting in America. This time in a small Texas town and in a church. The dead include children and among them the pastor’s 14 year old daughter. The incident is sick. But what makes it worse for me were the remarks by Trump that it wasn’t gun related, and as usual that it’s too early, too hurtful to start talking about it now. Believe me it isn’t. No is the perfect time while the wounds are still raw and people will focus on them so maybe there won’t be another. This man should not have been allowed to own weapons especially of the type he used. It is time for an overhaul of the regulations- but out NRA, you don’t make the regs just purchase them. It has to be made more difficult to buy weapons. It has to be made impossible to buy assault weapons which aren’t needed for hunting. There needs to be a limit set on how many guns someone can hold. Please be sensible now, no-one is taking away your rights, just taking guns out of the hands that shouldn’t have them.                     Up at 2.30 am today. Breakfasted myself and drugged up before starting work. I put the laundry on and brought my coffee back. The nice young nurse ( going to Vegas) this weekend came at about 11.30 am to do my dressings and left at 12.15 pm just when Bargain Hunt started. I lunched late thanks to that so missed my kip.                                      I worked till 3.30 pm then watches a bit of Escape to the Country. Just wait till I have the money to do that. At 4.30 I stayed for Flog It so didn’t return to work again until 9.00 pm hence the fact I’m here now doing this at 11.45 pm. I’m off to bed for a read.

Tuesday.

01.38 am this morning. Not even an hour and a half. What have I done to upset Somnos this time? Or, more to the point, what does he want.I had my breakfast at 3.00 am after taking my meds and didn’t hear from him by that time. Whatever it is can’t quash my mood.                                                                                                                                                       At 10.30 am Yvonne arrived with Amelie, her poor little chest sounded terrible and she was far too quiet. She stayed in to look after me while Yvonne went out to do some shopping for me. We had a look at some toys in a catalogue and then spent some time taking the money out of the frog’s mouth from my Chinese Good Luck symbol. When Yvonne returned she had sandwiches for lunch and egg custards as a pudding. I wasn’t ready for my lunch just then but it seemed Amelie was and she tore into her ham ‘samwiches’ with gusto. She wasn’t as taken with the egg custard however and poor Yvonne ended up with a half chomped pastry mess in her hand. I thought I’d try something different and got her a little chocolate Rolo pudding.Much to Yvonne’s surprise that was gone in no time at all. Judging by the smiles the old Amelie had returned too, she had energy. When it was time for them to go, Yvonne lifted Ami up to give me a kiss and keep my feet safe, she had a look of sheer delight and mischief on her face, I thought she was going to test Santa’s beard. I got a kiss and a big smile instead. I missed them once they’d gone.                                                                                                           I worked catch-up during the afternoon then spent the evening with my feet up so my feet would be relaxed tomorrow. 9.00 pm back to work.

Wednesday.

There are only three possible positions to sleep in this bed and I favour one of them. I’d stopped reading at 12.15 am and turned my light out yet it took forever trying to find a position in which my feet didn’t hurt so I could sleep. I had been promised if I should sleep for four hours I would have great dreams, especially for the latter two hours. You don”t turn down offers like that at my age since dreams are often all you have. So, I woke up at 2..59 am with no memory of the two hours prior and with the certain knowledge that I wouldn’t experience the latter two hours. I remember that Somnos never liked me having dreams ‘like that’, but surely he wouldn’t begrudge me a bit of fun?                          After breakfast and meds I brought a coffee back to work and carried on working until 7.20 am when I went for a sit in my chair. I managed to sit undisturbed until 8.30 am, no dreams to accompany my Zzz’s. At lunchtime I did some baby boiled potatoes, some corned beef and some beans. After Bargain Hunt I worked again. About 3.20 pm I was just sending Yvonne a text to ring the nurses for me  as I expected to be on today’s list. Just before I could press send the nurse arrived. Let’s just say it was a painful day. When she’d gone I went through to my bedroom to scream and caught Dil sneaking in quietly. I think glossing over tonight’s results is the best policy or I shall have to retire to scream again. After Dil left in gloat mode I worked for a couple of hours and went to bed at 11.30 pm.

Thursday,

I got a good couple of solid hours sleep last night. I woke at 3.00 am and immediately went through for my meds and my breakfast. The minute I started taking my meds though I had the problem of needing to take them again as they re-appeared. I may not have been pebble dashing the walls but I certainly had to mop the floor around me. The milk I was using is many times filtered and is fresh for at least another 2 weeks. Anyway you can always tell when milk is on the turn. I took the rest of the tablets one at a time and managed to keep them down. I’d made some toast for breakfast and thought it might help but couldn’t finish it. So let’s see, I’m having morning sickness and I’m off my food. Any suggestions? I may be having harsh words with Somnos before long if this is his idea of a joke. Incidentally, a message on my screen this morning advises me to invest my time in ‘small gods inc.’ A guaranteed reward for those with something to offer. So it looks like he’s making a play for the big leagues again.                                                                A nurse arrived this morning a day early and she thought my dressings were still daily Seeing the state of one of them tonight, I wish they were, It looks like I’m wearing one winklepicker. I had a nice outing with MuJo for lunch though it was a close call whether they’d let me out or not. I think the pleading on my knees did the trick. Mind you they had to help me up afterwards. After they dropped me off ( I do wish they’d stop the car first) I worked until 5.15 pm, then Mike arrived at 6.00 pm. I came through at 9.00 pm to play catch up.

Friday.

At 12.30 am I was trying to do a masterclass in sorting bandages. I’d gone to Mike’s room to ask him something and noticed a very long trail behind me as I returned unraveling. Once in bed with a pretty little bow decorating my big toe it took me a long time to drop off. That of course didn’t prevent me getting up again at 2.50 am. I took my morning meds and then filled the dishes for the next week. Weetabix for breakfast although it was a close call as I had major problems opening a new 4 pint of milk. I was red in the face and looked like a heart attack in the making. I was almost ready to wake Mike and ask him to do it before it finally moved.                                                                                                  I worked until about 8.00 am then went to my chair in the lounge with my feet on the stool. Mike got up at 8.40 am and came through carrying a heavy glass vase and asked why he’d woken up  with it on his bed this morning. I couldn’t answer the question though I clearly remembered placing it there. I nodded off and while I did Mike departed on his usual Friday jaunt. It was 10.40 am when I woke and I had to go and start work again. My feet were bad and both sets of dressings made me look like an ancient mummy (you do know I’ve been insulted in better places than this don’t you? There’s no need for that).  I broke off for a little light lunch at noon then returned to work at 1.00 p,m just before Sharon appeared to start cleaning. Sharon left at 3.00 pm as the chemist delivered a new cream for my hands and then Mike came home about 4.15 pm, very early for him.  I had a strip wash in the bathroom after Mike washed my hair for me. So difficult keeping the dressings dry. Mastermind and then Have I Got News For You before I came through for the final catch up and left Mike watching England play Football on TV.

Saturday.

Don’t you just hate it when your expectations are foiled?Last night I had visions of a decent night’s sleep, which was to include an appropriate lie-in this morning. I’d got to bed at 11.30 pm last night and felt I deserved a read. Light off at 12.05 am didn’t seem bad but in actual fact though finding a comfortable position to sleep in while keeping my feet out of the bed was very difficult. I was very surprised to find myself wide awake at 1.48 am not even 2 hours of sleep. Still nothing from Somnos to say what he wants. I hope I’m not blaming him unfairly. Took my tabs and had breakfast then carried my coffee through to work. By some miracle there was still some in the cup when I got there. The shakes were there with a vengeance. At 5.00 am I had a lull in proceedings so went to my chair in the lounge where I settled for 40 winks. I knew I could rely on Mike’s alarm to wake me at 6.00 am. The big question was could I rely on it to wake him? I made a coffee and called him, he allowed the alarm to go off four times and then he just turned it off. At 6.30 am I had to go through with a crow bar. I got dressed and strapped my slippers on and took the food waste bin out.                                                                                     We went out at 7.00 am and with Mike making me sit in the wheelchair stayed out until 12.50 pm. Annoyingly the nurse had been at 12.30 pm despite having been told we were out till 2.00 pm to be on the safe side. When Mike go her on the phone she refused to come out again. No idea now if she’ll want to come tomorrow or Monday which would be the next due day. Mike went out to visit an old friend until very late tonight. Just as well he doesn’t need the alarm tomorrow.

Sunday.

Mike had returned from his outing about 11.30 pm last night. I was reading in bed. He came through to talk about how the afternoon had gone and he was still rabbiting at 12.30am when I called time. Out went my light and after a few spins I found sleep. I woke at 2.24 am and very gingerly made my way to the loo not quite fully awake.. I coughed, which I tried to keep quiet and I almost had a cleaning crew accident when a voice not very far away asked if I was OK. I was now fully awake and the little voice announced it was going to try to sleep now.                                                                                                              Once I was up to date about 7.00 am I went to have a nod off in my chair in the lounge. I decided not to get dressed early so if the nurse came the trouser legs would be nice and loose. When Mike got up later he rang the Nurses office to see if they would be calling today. No answer, so instead we left a message asking if they’d call after 2.00 pm. I asked Mike if he’s mind having lunch very locally just in case. We went out about 11.40 am and returned about 12.30 pm. Bloody typically there was a not to say they’d been at noon. Still no answer on their office phone. I shall have to cross my fingers they come tomorrow before these bandages disintegrate totally. We watched War Horse before Mike had to start the journey home and in good conscience I could go to work. Once I was back up to date I went back in to Joey and fell asleep. I woke to find I’d burned a hole in my chair.I shouldn’t smoke when I’m tired.

Starting the week Windy

Monday.16.10.17

Well, I’ve been up since a quarter past two this morning and the wind just hasn’t died down. (I’ll have to give the beans a miss in future). It seems the tail end of a hurricane is with us and what a tail it must be as it’s now 11.00 pm. It was so dull this morning I couldn’t open Joey’s cage at 8.00 am, it was still bad at 9.00 am but I put the lounge light on for him before opening his door.                                                                                                                   The nurse came about 10.30 am and I was delighted that I knew this one. When I had the chest infection and breathing problems last year she was one of the team that came. She’s now changed teams and volunteered to come when she recognised my name today. I was pleased as she was very gentle. Still strapping those bandages high though. Had lunch at 12.15 pm and just didn’t enjoy it, in fact threw half away. But I did make up for it with two mince pies. After Bargain Hunt I slept till about 2.20 pm so had some catching up to do back at my desk. I still managed to fall asleep in my Antiques Road Trip programme and then again in Warehouse 13.                                                                                 I came back through at 9.00 pm ready to catch up for the evening and then go to bed and read. I’m heading for my bed now. 11.20 pm and all’s well.

Tuesday.

I didn’t get up until 2.40 am so by the time I’d faffed around getting to the kitchen and taking my meds I had to delay breakfast for an hour so it didn’t clash with the antibiotic. I took a coffee back to my room while I waited. I could still hear the wind outside. I went back at 4.00 am and got some toast to keep me going till lunchtime.                                       By 7.30 am I’d just caught up on the overnight stuff and decided to get dressed, making sure I chose a pair of jeans with wide legs as getting the slim ones off is a comedy in itself. It looked fairly light do I stuck my head outside the front door. I was missing a doormat and my waste food bin. The latter I found buried in a clump of dog roses. I forced a slipper on as far as it would go and went looking for my mat.Pauline in the shop told me the wind would be gone by 10.00am. She was right too. I found the mat rolled up behind the big bin and stuck it back where it should go,                                                            Remembered my 9.00 am antibiotic half an hour late but I forgave myself. I didn’t report it to Yvonne in case she didn’t. I had lunch of beef stew and 12.00 pm and didn’t finish it. Just disinterest I think. The nurse came soon after, not one I’ve met before, yes, it is possible, I’m not always ill. Honestly. She was very nice and gentle but still strapped up to my chin. Move over Rameses I need room.                                                                                       I slept until 2.45 pm then watched a programme on finding lost family, very good programme. Once over it was back to work until 4.30 pm and my Antiques Road Trip, I stayed awake. Back to my room at 9.00 pm ti catch up on mail and record this, It’s 11.33 pm now and I’m off for a read.

Wednesday.

2.55 am rise and shine. By the time I’d forced a slipper on each foot and been to the kitchen for my meds some of the shine had worn off. I came back with coffee to work until I could have my breakfast. I had cleared things by 5.00 am including the break for breakfast, some very uninspiring toast. I could only eat a round and a half. Anyway, at 5.00 am I went to sit in the lounge and try for a nap. It just wasn’t working so by twenty past I was back out. In that short space of time there were over thirty sneaky messages in. I set too again. At 9.15 am I dressed so none of the nurses were dazzled by my Welsh Dragon lounge pants and Bazinga teeshirt. The nurse came just before 11.00 am and was making a good job of the dressing when a neighbour popped her head round the door. She’s been shopping and had picked up some boxes of chocolates for my dwindling stocks. The nurse set to dressing my other leg as it’s showing signs of starting up again. Maybe we’ll have scared it off by tomorrow. My neighbour left followed by the nurse with her box of chocolates.                                                                                                            Lunch was another ‘bing’ meal, braised steak and mash which I ate without enjoying it. I ate while Bargain Hunt was on then settled down for a kip. I woke at 2.35 pm and came back to work until 4.30 pm when Dil was due. I was just preparing his mug when he arrived. Overall tonight he won 2 games to my one but I’ve stopped swearing now. One last push to clear up and then a read I think before lights out at midnight.

Thursday.

2.55 am Saw me up and about. Perfect timing for my meds and an hour’s work before breakfast. That happened at 4.00 am and was my usual boring jam on toast. I’d sack the bloody unimaginative chef if I didn’t need the job so much.                                                 7.45 am saw me sneaking out with slippers tied to my feet as my feet wouldn’t go in them. It was ouch. ouch, ouch every step of the way but I needed essentials, Cigarettes to last me to Saturday, Bread and most important Lottery Tickets. I was back in the house by 8.00 am knowing the nurses hadn’t caught me.                                                                     The morning passed in work and for lunch I had one of my chips in curry sauce. No kip after lunch because Sharon was due. Typically she’d just started in the lounge when the nurses arrived. Both feet were still wet and needed dressing again but before it could be done my bloodthirsty little cleaner asked if she could take a look. Ugh, that’s horrible and “You poor thing” ( I think she meant me and not the nurse) were her responses. Once the nurses left Sharon told me to ring if I ever needed shopping and couldn’t get out which was amazing because she lives in a smaller village than mine which is a good way away and she has to take a bus. She got her box of chocolates to take home as the nurses had. I worked until 4.30 pm then started to nod off a bit. Mike arrived at 8.00 pm then at 9.00 pm it was back to work. It’s midnight now and time to finish.

that's all folks

That’s all folks….

Friday

12.00 am Bed                                                                                                                                            12.30 am finish reading lights off. Can’t sleep easily.                                                                      02.57 am up again. I must have swallowed an alarm clock but I swear I haven’t bitten off any Pirate hands EVER. It takes me a while to take my meds and then refill my tubs for the next week. Then, because I’ve finished the antibiotics I can have breakfast. I celebrate with Weetabix then make a coffee to take back to my room. Time to get some work done. I whizzed through the first forty or so until all that was left on the first pass was a single message that was going to take a couple of hours to answer. It was about 4.30 am I started on that. Many laughs, dirty chuckles and brilliant feelings of actually being someone, I finished my response and sent it off. Hoping I wasn’t coming across as a dirty old man.                                                                                                                                          I worked on and at about 8.00 am Mike got up so I took a break. I got dressed quickly as I had no idea what time the nurse would come. Mike left about 10.00 am (after getting dressed) and the nurse arrived about half an hour later. It’s bad news, the bandages are up to my knee on the other leg now. It looks like I’m wearing football socks.                        Margaret my neighbour brought me two more boxes of chocolates, the last on the shelves apparently. At noon I tied my slippers on and walked very tentatively up to the shops to get some sausage and chips. I know I could make then at home but it would mean a lot of standing. Anyway I got my lunch, all the time regretting I hadn’t just made a sandwich. Towards the end of the meal there was a knock at the door and another neighbour, Mavis had come to offer er services if I ever needed any shopping. I think she was 86 last week. Aren’t people beautiful.                                                                                Mike got home early, about 5.00pm and later on washed my hair for me. Not much chance of a shower at the moment so it was a strip wash. TV till 9.30 pm then back into battle with quite a lot waiting. 11.22 pm now so off to grab a small read in a minute.

Saturday.

Not sure where my head was this morning, probably up my ‘arris. I got up at 2.26 am and went straight through to the kitchen where I took all my meds and then ate my Weetabix. I was back at my desk with a fresh coffee 5 minutes before I was due to take my meds. For some reason I hadn’t stopped to turn on the computer ( by whispering sweet nothings in French down my speakers?) and start work until 3.00 am.When I did open the computer I was pleasantly surprised to find my overnight mail was only 21. I was able to whizz through that in no time at all not laying any emphasis on one from Mystic Mog who still knows the best time for me to try for my Lotto win. Considering I do all the Lotto days any win will come whether I pay her for the information or not. I think I’ll save the money for Lotto tickets. Anyway, another new friend from Camaroon wants to give me 10 million dollars to look after for him and I can keep 40% of it. It’s so exciting. Of course I’d love to get rid of the niggling doubt I have about him not knowing he perhaps lives in Cameroon or as I think, more likely Nigeria. Still maybe I can negotiate a bigger share?                                                                                                                                        Mike’s alarm went off at 6.00 am and 5 past, ten past and quarter past. I shouted that his coffee was on his table at the 6.00 am call then gave up until I actually heard him rouse. We left the house on our Saturday adventure at 7.00 am and reached the Supermarket not long after quarter past. Then we wasted time finding the security man with the desk keys so he could release the keys to one of the electric wheelchairs. Eventually I was away like the wind scaring all the early birds that I was going to run over their toes. I noticed Mike kept a wide berth. Somehow, despite my being jet propelled, we wasted time so that it was almost 9.00 am before we left. I backed the chair into position and noticed two people move from one side of the reception are to the other. Cheek! After Mike’s breakfast at our next port of call we took a ride over to Flint to get coffee at our favourite cafe. Naturally while we were out we had to visit shops.                                      After seeing our friends we found it was almost noon so we shot off for lunch. The Dragon’s Rest. Then we came home so I’d be in for the nurse. She thinks I need more antibiotics but we’ve decided to  wait until after it’s been dressed on Monday to see how it looks then. She’s made a friend of Mike without him seeing her as she’s coming in the morning which means I won’t wake him to go out. I worked for the rest of the afternoon, had a bit of TV early evening then came through to work at 9.00 pm.

don't step on a crack

Don’t step on a crack.

Sunday.

Was awake at 2.55 am, groped for my glasses and got up In the kitchen I felt a little discombobulated I knew I’s definitely taken one inhaler but couldn’t remember about the other. I took the second one and hoped I hadn’t just doubled up. Then I found myself pressing out two each of my diabetic control tablets and went straight in to making two pieces of toast. One round of toast I slathered with butter and then strawberry jam, I cut both ‘jammed’ and plain buttered pieces on half and started eating. It was at this point I realised I hadn’t taken my normal daily tablets yet and eight of those is just too much to miss, I finished half a round of toast and took my first two diabetic tabs, then I had the other half with jam and half plain, took the last two diabetic ones and finished the last half round of toast. That just left all the forgotten tabs to take which I can manage as 6+1+1 if I take my time. Then a coffee to take back to my room. For some reason I finished my first batch of mail by 5.00 am and started to look at Ebay. No more mail arrived until just after 6.00 am. I was dressed by 8.00 am and the nurse arrived at 9.30 am, she took her time cleaning and dressing the legs then left me at about 10.00 am The first thing I did was put the kettle on as I knew Mike was awake and would want a great big caffeine overdose. Once I’d made it I had to leave to continue with an email I’d left. The wind was atrocious again this morning so when we came to go out at 11.30 am ish, Margaret came out and offered a wheelchair. It was too good to miss as we’d be able to move much faster than I could on foot. We enjoyed a nice carvery then went to look for a specific type of jar he’d got before that he wanted for his sugar. We didn’t find it but we did find a large glass skull (as you do) that would fit nicely in his collection. I found a small plate as a start to my Christmas presents. We came home                                                 I watched a bit of TV till I nodded off. When I woke an hour later Mike was just preparing to go. I waved him off and went to work. By 5.30 pm I was clear again and went to sit with Joey, I stayed awake, honestly. By half eight I’d had enough and came back to start work again. I’ve been here ever since totin’ that barge and liftin’ that bale.

Have a wonderful new week. Remember to tell everyone that at some point the killing must stop so why not now? Keep sharing the smiles and Hugs for not everyone has one but everyone needs one.

The Progress Report.

This progress report is nothing more than an excuse to post a few pictures and try and wriggle my way out of trouble where possible. Round about my Plas Teg post I explained the cellulitis and what was happening to my right foot and the lower leg between knee and ankle. Well, that first week I was visiting the surgery to undergo one of my regular reviews and it was to be done by a new Sister. (Nursing not familial). She decided after seeing my foot that I needed to see the doctor and somehow she managed to slot me in after this appointment was due to end. Accordingly I found myself sitting in the corridor waiting for the doctor to finish with her last patient. I saw another patient going in and  realised she was running late. I took the chance and did a runner, though I did get the reception to cancel my appointment. The next morning the doctor got in touch with my boss (Yvonne) and a third batch of antibiotics was on it’s way to me.

liverpool 7                  looking up to big brother

This last  week it was coincidental that the antibiotics finished and that I was due for another review for a different complaint. This time it was with my favourite Sister. I was fairly sure I’d be in and out in no time and that I could count on her especially as it was a day my own doctor wasn’t in. Anyway, review done she asked to have a look at my feet even though I said things were improving. She took a look at my leg also at which point she excused herself and darted off to have a word with someone. That someone turned out to be another doctor whom I didn’t know and who wanted to see me. Drat. I didn’t get chance to do a runner this time even though the situation was stressful. I hate afternoon appointments as there are always more people about. I hate leaving the house at all. She saw me quite quickly and offered her opinion which matched the Sister’s, then gave her instructions as to what was to happen at which point I was doing a lot of nodding and edging towards the door. I got out and got home. One thing she suggested was getting the foot dressed. I was due for blood tests last Friday morning so Yvonne arranged for me to attend the dressings clinic. Mike came over on Thursday night and took me to both appointments on Friday so once my foot had been dressed I was able to go home quite quickly.

school day 1-ready

Three weeks after turning 4 he’s off to school. At least I had 8 months after my birthday before I went (1955) and I’ll bet I wasn’t this calm.                                                                       So, it’s been quite eventful. My right leg is still very swollen but I think this last lot of concentrated antibiotics have turned the foot round (no, I’m not walking backwards to Christmas). Another week and we’ll see if the cracking to the skin has gone. Maybe if I still have fat leg in a few weeks I’ll rethink things so that it doesn’t interfere with the Christmas shopping. ( stop that crying now, it’s only 11 weeks away I’m told, that’s not a lot).

This morning (Sunday) we’d hoped to get to a car boot sale and the forecast had been good. The reality was different. Mike’s prayers must have come true when his alarm went off and I went through to tell him to turn it off  and go back to sleep. He never needs telling twice. About half an hour later I was working on emails when the who system went down. I knew it wasn’t a power cut as my lights were still on. Checking the house it was clear the ring main which controls the plug sockets was down. I tried rebooting the trip switch in the fuse box to no avail but the noise from the alarm system hiccuping was disturbing Mike so he got up. We spent most of the morning pulling every plug out and putting them in one by one until we came to one that caused the system to go down again. By the time it had given three different answers we were tearing our hair out and gasping for breath after climbing under beds and over bookcases etc. Eventually we had an electrician. It took until 1.00 pm before we had the likely suspect(s) maybe my fridge, or maybe the socket I’d had my fridge plugged in. The fridge is plugged in elsewhere now so I can keep an eye on it. So after my keep fit morning we finally got to go for lunch later than usual. Not a problem, our table wasn’t in use. A beautiful roast beef dinner made the world OK again.

I wish you all a wonderful week filled with smiles and Hugs. Fill as many lives with the same as you can.

Shopping Inspiration.

Sunday.
The decision had been made yesterday that we’d go to The Tweed Mill today and see if there was inspiration for Christmas. Every little helps. As also wanted Afon Wen(White River) antiques centre we’d have a meal in one of the two places despite knowing they’re overpriced. Mike dutifully got up at 8.30 am and because I didn’t put our usual Sunday morning programmes on there were no distractions.
We were out for 10.00 am and on our way to The Tweed Mill at St. Asaph. We arrived at 10.20 am and found we could walk around inside even though it didn’t open until half past. There was a good display of Christmas gifts but the one gift I was concentrating on was for a minimalist. Not easy but I think I managed ( more or less lol).

At noon we went for lunch. I quite enjoyed mine though more potato would have been welcome so I pinched one of Mike’s. The thing I missed most in the steak, ale and mushroom pie was the mushroom….there was certainly enough room for some. After lunch and a cigarette outside, we hit the upstairs. Not a lot of inspiration there so we went downstairs to pay for things we’d reserved behind the counter. Then we headed off to Afon Wen.

At Afon Wen I was lucky enough to get a couple of coins I wanted before we needed to indulge in a drink in their restaurant. Another short waltz round then homeward bound. Glory be, I’m cruppered. I couldn’t hit the mail when I got back because Mike was still here so I waited round chatting until after he’d arranged Ju’s flowers. Once he decided to start for his home at 5.00 pm I was able to come through and start. Poor Joey had to do without company until 8.00 pm. Then he got an hour before it was time for my drugs and back to work.

Monday.

3.25 am seemed to be the time that attracted me today. My brain came to life to realise that it needed to play catch up with my legs that were already on their way out of bed. Luckily it wasn’t but a sparrow fart to the computer chair. I turned on and ploughed into the multitude of messages that were waiting. By 5.00 pm there were still a few to deal with but two thing were now a priority, the kitchen and my meds and a visit to the loo before I started  bladder leakage programme on the bedroom floor. I must have been jer, jer, jigglin’ for a while judging by the speed I had to move. Thing is, my legs are on  the move all the time sitting here so I can’t always tell what for.

I took my meds and had breakfast (Shreddies, no not the underpants kind) then took the antibiotic, the steroids (check out the Moobs!) Had my after meal diabetic tabs. I swear I rattle when I move. I put the washing machine on then brought a coffee back to my desk to carry on with the mail. At 6.20 am I was just about up to date so took my coffee mug back to the kitchen, turned the drier on and then sat with Joey and watched the news. I’m waiting for the day they say All wars are over, mankind is turning over a new leaf. Sometimes man needs a light to guide him towards peace, you have a choice to carry the light or be the light. I’m not holding my breath still though, maybe one day?

I alternated between periods doing messages, periods with Joey and periods answering the door to the postman and delivery men. Christmas is being whittled down fast. The day passed quickly but relatively peacefully. In bed for a read at 11.10 pm.

Tuesday.

I wasn’t very happy that after turning my light off at 12.15 am for sleep, I find myself staring at 1.47 am on the clock. I had slept but who knows for how long. I need to be on a bus at 7.30 am but this was taking preparation time to new levels. I did the only thing I could, no, not annoy Joey, I started on my mail and opened ebay.  At 4.00 am I’d just  paid for  a purchase (never miss a chance) then decided to go and take my meds and have breakfast. Today 2 rounds of toast, one with strawberry jam. I took my coffee back to the desk.By 7.30 am I was dressed for the rain, Joey’s door was open but the lounge door was shut and all lights were out. I walked up to the bus stop.

There were two more people waiting but they were kind enough to let me on first. I found my usual seat (not that it was lost but maybe a little misguided). Once the journey was under way I sent a text to Yvonne to let her know, then I closed my eyes as usual and pretended I was asleep. I was mortified to find out I really was asleep when I was pulled out of it by a voice asking where I was going today as we were in Chester. The driver had got out of his cabin to come wake me. I think he expected to find a corpse on the seat when he got close. I hopped off pretty smartish and went to find Yvonne and the kids. The first stop was for coffee to wake me up and a loo to get rid of the last one. After the usual argument about who pays I sat down defeated and put Amelie on my knee. She’s all bounce and made me feel like a tramampoline.

Needless to say we looked round shops all morning until Roobs began to show signs of being weary poor lamb. We walked to my bus stop and I tried to get them to go home rather than wait. It was like being escorted off the premises. Then Reuben was suddenly caught short so they had to dash off to the nearest loo anyway. They arrived back as my bus did so I got my final kisses. And yes, I did fall asleep on the return journey too but was awake in Holywell and stayed that way for the last three stops. A quick call in to Pauline’s and then the final dash to home hoping to open the front door before I went through it in search of the loo.

Wednesday.

I woz robbed. I got up just before 6.00 am to go to the loo and was delighted to have slept so long. t was only on the return journey, now wide awake ready to face the day I found it was 2.52 am. I sat dejectedly on the edge of the bed for a few minutes to see if sleep could be induced but all I could sense was the laughter of Somnos ( the small god of sleep, see the Blog Cast List). So I started work and that seemed to go on and on. I took a break to annoy  sit with Joey from 6.15 am to almost 7.30 am then it was back to it. At 9.14 am I got dressed and I’m so glad I did as that was the time the postman decided to knock with my next batch of parcels. Once those were checked and stored I left feedback.

I’ve decided to be honest. After doing the post this morning I’ve seen that I don’t care for haiku very much. I’ve always enjoyed the richness of language employed in poetry and we have some excellent poets online, but the haiku with it’s minimalist emotion and starved format just isn’t my cup of tea. It won’t stop me tweeting them but the likes will definitely be more frugal.

I had a fancy for sausage and chips today but it was pouring at lunchtime so I settled on some micro chips and curry sauce. It’s less than I would have eaten from the chippy he cried. After lunch I stole an hour for sleep from 1.00 till 2.00 ish pm then came back to work to keep as clear as possible with Dil coming . Play went well and was fun but I’m refusing to say who won. After he left at 9.30 pm I washed the pots, wished Joey good night, took my meds and came through to work ( and grumble) until 11.20 pm when it was time to read in bed.

Thursday.

I’d like to thank my friend Debby Kaye for her intercession with Somnos. Last night she must have distracted him quite a bit as I slept between 12.30 am and 4.45 am, possibly up to a whole  4 hours. I don’t want to leave her having to be his new infatuation for long in case Debby decides she might need some sleep herself, but one more night would be fantastic, hint, hint.

I went through to the loo before going to take my morning meds and have breakfast. I just had a round of toast this morning because something happened last night at 11.20 pm which I’m not admitting to. Luckily no-one could believe that I decided I needed a chip butty at that time could they? Coming back there was plenty of mail when I signed in which was understandable given my absence away from the screen. It took me until 7.10 am to catch up and take a short break with Joey.

At 9.00 am I had to go to buy some stamps from the Post Office. I needed milk and bread from Pauline’s so thought I could collect my new lottery tickets at the same time. I got my stamps before realising I’d come out without my lottery  list. Damnation. I got my bred and milk then walked home to drop them off before returning again with my list. Lottery done it was back home and lock myself in until the postman comes. I was almost caught up with mail when the postman arrived with 4 new mystery parcels for me. I have to forget what I’ve ordered so I can be surprised and excited. Mind you, some take so long it’s almost true.

I watched the last of the three confrontations between the presidential candidates at 11.00 am. I came a way feeling how the hell could either of these people have the nerve to stand for this great office. Will Hillary Clinton be the next President to be impeached? She is by far the better of the two candidates but she has a politicians way of ignoring any inconvenient questions by answering with something that no-one wants to know. Having said that, she is erudite and quite calm while he is a mess. He talks with his hands but they seem to know few gestures and as for policy, who knows what either is promising as the battle before me was one of personalities. Throwing insults at your opposition seems to be an art form in the cult of personalities when you don’t have good policies to show. I’d say the big losers here are the American people.

I had a message from Mike to say he was on his way about 3.45 pm so I concentrated on clearing as much as I could to be ready for his arrival. That happened about 6.15 pm so while I heard the great sighs of relief after the journey I made a coffee to start filling him up again. We talked about our week as we watched TV and then he stuck his head in his tablet and watched his beloved Manchester United win  a game 4-1.  I came through at just gone 9.30 am to catch up on mail and was still here at 11.25 pm. It’s now 11.33 pm and I’m turning off and turning in for the night.

Hugs to all.

Friday.

I read until 12.30 am this morning then was pretty sure I’d get to sleep. It was correct, I did.  Morning snuck up on me without me realising it was a fraud. I paid a visit to the loo then came back ready and willing to work to find it was just 2.58 am.  I’d barely had time to reach a REM cycle,( I think I got as far as Everybody Hurts). Reluctantly now I started work and stayed there until 4.00 am when I went to take my meds, do my meds for the next week and have breakfast. I brought a coffee back to my desk at 4.40 am and started again. By 5.27 am I was up to date and went to see what the news had to offer. What it kindly had to offer was an extra half hour’s kip.

At 7.50 am I decided I’d better go play catch up again. Somehow over 60 pieces had appeared since I left the room so I had to work at it. The next thing I knew it was 9.10 am and I could hear Mike attempting to leave his lungs in the bathroom while he went back for a coffee. I went t see to the drink for him. We both sat quietly in the lounge waiting for the day to make an impression on us. It had already done so on Joey who was singing up a storm, only perhaps the word singing is a kindness too far since he sounded like a bag of cats.

At 10.00 am the postman had been and I’d started watching Homes Under the Hammer, I know I’d seen all three properties so it must have gone 10.30 am, but I was poisoned, drugged or time had churned a little too quickly. I know this because I suddenly came to and it was now 11.35 am. The TV was still on but I was all alone (apart from Joey) and by my side as another delivery. I couldn’t possibly go and start peeling hings with which to make my lunch now so I returned to work. I stayed there catching up again until 12.50 pm then made myself a sandwich to eat whilst watching Cold Case.

The afternoon was spent catching up again though I had a break at 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm. Once 5.15 am came I was on the TV with my programmes. Poor Mike had sent a message to say he was on his way back and then another one to say he was stuck in a massive traffic jam. It took him until 9.00 pm to get back instead of 6.00 pm. His bladder must be cast iron.

At 9.40 pm I excused myself to come and work but when he came through to speak to me I caught him up in a problem I’m having in the hopes it would clarify things. I was also a little worried as Amelie is poorly and Yvonne seems to be under some strain. At 11.46 pm I decided to turn off and head for my book.

Saturday.

Maybe I  was sleeping on the wrong side this morning because it seemed to take a long time to turn over and get up. When I did so I sat on the edge of the bed for a minute to try and work out who I was and what I was doing there. The latter became of prime importance when my bladder tried sending smoke signals to my brain. I made it safely to the loo.

I’d been asleep since about 1.00 am as I’d felt tired all day yesterday. It was now 3.55 am so rather than start any work, I went to take my morning meds and have some breakfast. Cornflakes today if you’re interested. Actually, cornflakes today even if you’re not. Somehow that took me until 4.40 am so I took my coffee through and started the day’s mail. I knew I’d only work until about 5.30 am before breaking off to do the rubbish and recycling collection. Somehow, I did the last piece of mail in the early batch at 5.25 am so I was fine for a break.

At 6.00 am after the rubbish was outside for collection, I came back inside for the Battle of Alarm Bay. The first skirmish started at 6.00 am on the dot when Mike’s alarm goes off and I try to get his coffee ready before he ignores it and goes back to sleep. I didn’t quite manage it this morning and had to wake him with the news his coffee was on the table in the lounge. I thought the message had got through from the encouraging grunts I got. He went back to sleep regardless until the second alarm woke him at 6.05 , at 6.10 am and finally at 6.15 am when he went through to the lounge to fall asleep in his chair. We still managed with a bit of prodding to be out of the house by 7.30 am and it was exciting today as we were going somewhere different to do something different this morning. A secret mission with Christmas in mind.

We were successful and able to head back towards Flint in order to have a coffee at Temptations. Then we did a little frozen food shopping which we took straight home and Mike made me put it away even though it was his turn. Before we went back out for lunch I decided to leave feedback on a parcel delivered this morning. Bert brought it round when he saw the car. Only problem was, I lost it. High and low, low and high we searched. I knew I’d put it in a shopping bag to carry it but those were long emptied. At last inspiration… I told Mike to open the boot to see if it had dropped out. It hadn’t, but it was inside a shopping bag Mike was keeping in the car with his stuff. PHEW!!

We went into Holywell for lunch to the Top Bells. I had a mushroom omelette and chips, Mike had fish and chips. From there we went gift hunting and promptly forgot the other shop we were intending to hit and just came home. I worked hard on my mail while someone else went to sleep and ignored the bird who then gave him the bird. I went through at 5.30 am in the hopes of falling asleep too finding something exciting to watch. Both sleep and TV were hard to come by with the snoring from the next chair so I tried reading the TV mag and imagining what I could be watching. Typical, the minute I thought about watching a Sandra Bullock film, Mike woke up to play chaperone or to move in on he himself. At 9.00 pm I gave up and came through to work and find a way to hide the lottery millions I’m going to win away from him. Serves him right.

Have a Wonderful Weekend everybody. Masses of Hugs all round.

Oh Woe is Me.

Monday.
I was up at 2.10 am but decided I liked my neighbours enough to keep the noise down. Therefore I didn’t go in to Joey, didn’t turn the TV on and left the washing machine alone. Instead I decided to start the post. That kept me going until 5.00 am when it seemed a good time to medicate myself and have breakfast. First though I set the washer to Quickwash and let ‘er rip. By the time I’d finished the sprays, tablets and then eaten breakfast too, the washing was done and I could set it to dry and disappear.

Back to my mail with both incoming and outgoing comments I managed another hour until at 6.30 ish I thought maybe I could manage a little snooze. This time I did go to Joey and with a word of apology I turned the TV on to the news. I knew before I did it that it would be a mistake but hey, that’s never stopped me before. So as I shut my eyes to try and relax there a far too much noise about the Cousin’s current merry go round election debacle. I left myself wondering if they  shouldn’t call it all off and just appoint the Independent as President. Apart from not knowing where A…LEPPO  is he seemed pleasant enough.

Most of the day was on the computer catching up or keeping up with mail. I don’t think there’s a corner of the World I’ve left untouched now. Eventually I turned off at 11.30 pm  and went to bed to read for a while. Coughing well.

Tuesday.

Up at 3.08 am . Not feeling well and coughing fit to wake the neighbours streets away. No way I can visit Chester like this. Still, looking on the bright side, I won’t get my knee cap gnawed and I’m unlikely to get rugby tackled to the ground, and that’s just by Yvonne in an argument about who pays for coffee.

At 5.00 am I went to take the diet pills, meaning the pills that constitute my diet, and have some small breakfast. Today it was half a round of toast. Not wanting to return to the mail yet I went to sit in the lounge after breakfast. On went the news and the brightness of the TV disturbed Joey so I had to apologise. Thing was, I had to look round to see who’d spoken. It can’t have been me. This was a dark brown, husky voice that Joey responded to and  it sounded like it was coming from my boots, which incidentally were still in my bedroom. My throat felt fine but the echoes came from my chest area.

I rested up as much as possible but waited until Sharon came at 1.30 pm before going to lie on my bed to cogitate. Strange the snoring sound that accompanied it.

Wednesday

Had to admit defeat this morning and start taking emergency antibiotics and steroids. I can imagine the glee of “I told you so’s” from certain quarters. I didn’t have long to wait. I rested up for the day, mainly by leaning on the computer table and keeping the post going. Had a visit from my new warden ??? Where’d Bev go? and also my chemist friend with new drugs.

Thursday

As I’m not expecting Mike today ( he’s at a birthday party for one of his grandsons), I can at least avoid more sarcasm about leaving things long enough to get pneumonia. I was up at 3.20 am , breakfasted at 5.00 am when I took my meds then sat with Joey until 8.30 am. After getting washed and dressed I went to Pauline’s to restock the cupboard then came home to relax. I needed too as the short walk had knackered me. Still, no excuse needed for the after lunch kip today.

Damn me if I didn’t get a text at about 9.00 pm to say Mike’s on his way. Perhaps he didn’t get a piece of cake. It was midnight before he got here, I was still awake. We both had a piece of cake. I made him  coffee while he told me of the accident he’d been caught by just up the road that had delayed him quarter of an hour. It was almost 1.30 am before I put my book down in an attempt to sleep.

Friday.

Up at 3.16 am and as it’s too early for breakfast yet I did the early morning mail until 4.30 am. Mike got up at 8.30 ish or 8.30 and three alarm calls. I was watching Frazier by the time he came through for his coffee. He left at 10.00 am to go to see his father in Manchester.  I’m afraid being one of those delicate alpine flowers (idle swine) I didn’t get dressed all day. Joey and I held  party on our own.

I went for a shower at 7.00 pm and Mike arrived home just before I went through so was able to do my hair for me. It was ridiculous the recovery time needed after just trying to hand dry my hair, maybe I should have used a towel as well?

Saturday.

I didn’t even manage 2 hours last night and was up at 2.15 am. By the time 6.00 am came round with Mike’s first alarm I was up to date with the mail, I’d seen to the rubbish and recycling which was now waiting for collection at the front, and I’d made his coffee and left it on the table in the lounge. I saw to Joey’s food and water then returned to my mail for a while. Mike got up at 6.20 am but we were still out of the house by 7.15 am.

We’d done the bulk of the shopping by 8.30 am, packed the car and had a cigarette. We drove to The Range where Mike had his breakfast toastie and once we’d had a coffee I looked round for Christmas inspiration. I got a little bit. Next we hit Flint which was followed by a drink at Temptations then a ride to The Bells of St Mary’s for lunch. We had anther port of call when lunch was over which was another supermarket for some dark chocolate choc ices. Finally I and my jelly legs could go home. After unpacking the shhopping and putting it away, I came through to catch up on mail while Mike cut some card to fit memory frames I bought a few weeks ago. Once done we filled them with Crown coins from 1951 to 1981 (8 in total) which make a beautiful display. I also sorted some crowns out missing from Mike’s collection, 1960, 1937 and 1935. It must have been 5.00 pm before we were able to relax.

The week in Short Snatches.

When Mike left to go home last Sunday I scuttled through to my bedroom and started work. It was 7.00 pm and dark before I’d finished. I went through to the lounge to put the light on for Joey who wasn’t very approving of my being so late. He gave me quite a mouthful, the force of which made him nod his head.. I didn’t dare laugh. I mention it now because I can hear him chunnering so it must be getting dark this week too.

To ward of the berating I turned his light on. It wasn’t too dark luckily. However it doesn’t seem to have stopped him dressing in his angry hat which I suspect he wears just for me. I had no  choice but to leave him again and concentrate on the post I haven’t been able to do today. At least he’s in the light.

We lunched in Prestatyn at The CookHouse and then while walking it off afterwards bumped into Sharon, my daily ( well, my once weekly anyway) and were able to offer her a lift home. She works 364 days per year as a chambermaid with just Christmas Day off and still comes to tidy up after me (mainly Joey really) every Tuesday.

On Monday I was indoors all day as usual. I dealt with my washing and drying, did Joey’s food and water and gave him as much attention as possible in between dealing with my mail which still exceeds 300 a day.

Tuesday rose fair and bright but not until I’d already been up a few hours. It’s averaging about 2.15 am at the moment so maybe 2 hours a night. Still, I get the early morning mil out of the way. At 7.30 am I was out of the house for the bus. I always choose this one as there’s generally no-one else on for a few stops and by then I can keep my eyes close and pretend to be asleep. One day I will be and will probably sail past Yvonne and the kids in Chester and find myself back home having done the round trip. But not today.

I got off the bus at a different stop because the driver went a different way. How confusing. My pick up would still be at my usual stop though. As fast as I could I got to the place we meet and being there first lit a cigarette. I glimpsed them coming into view a little way off and his behind a bush. Yes, that probably did look weird in the middle of town. As they got close I jumped out and said ‘BOO’ then apologised to the little Japanese lady I caught. I should have known Reuben wouldn’t be in a kimono. Roobs screeched with pleasure and ran to grasp my legs. If I hadn’t been able to grasp the street ash tray it would have been Timber I was shouting. We had a good morning together but 11.30 comes far too quickly.

pops-2-1sweet-ami-4

The journey home was more nerve wracking as there were a few passengers but pretending to be asleep put anyone off sitting near me except one woman who probably didn’t interpret the snoring properly and sat on the pocket of my jacket. She almost hatched out my tube of ‘Lockets’.

I got home and had less than half an hour before Sharon came. I did mail for the afternoon then and had my lunch after she’d gone.

On Wednesday I stayed in again. Dealt with mail and also the postman brought me a couple of coins to add to my lists. I looked through some Christmas stuff for gift ideas.

Thursday necessitated a quick trip to Pauline’s to restock the cigarettes and to get my Lottery tickets. I moved so fast Flash would be proud of me. I was back 5 minutes before I’d left….oh no, that was the clock that had stopped wasn’t it. I saw no-one except my postman until evening when Mike arrived. Tells me he’s on a new regime now so that he wants to be up no later that 8.30 am every day. He’s hoping it will bring his sleep pattern into line. Up to now a sledgehammer hasn’t managed that.

On Friday morning I didn’t get up until 2.45 am and considered that a lie in. Almost died of shock when Mike was up before 8.45 am. He must be using an alarm but I didn’t hear it. My postman came and intrigued me by bringing a letter which should have contained a coin, you could see where the pouch had been stuck to the middle of the tri fold letter. The envelope had a slit in the bottom and the coin was not there. I had to contact the seller to approach the post office. Luckily it’s not an expensive coin but it was the last this particular dealer had. I don’t want to slam him for the money back but I’m hoping it might just be found floating about a post bag or in a sorting office somewhere.

Mike returned early from seeing his Dad in Manchester and helped me wash my hair. I think it needs cutting again one last time before Winter, just like grass does.

Saturday it was another 2.45 am for me and an agonised 6.20 am for Mike even though his clock was set for 6.00 am. I wasn’t well as bronchitis has set in but I still had all the rubbish dealt with and put out for collection before he made his way through to the lounge where I’d put his coffee. We had a good shop followed by a coffee then shot over to The Range to grab a couple of things. In Flint we went to Temptations for a chin way and to give sweets to the staff before picking up some frozen food and going home. He made me put the frozen food away…with my chest….he’s all heart. After that we went to Rhyl for lunch so   he could get some specialist fish food. Back at home I worked while he watched football then we shared some TV time when I’d done.

I hope you all had a good weekend.

The Knee Jerk Reaction

This was a special weekend for me. Instead of wanting to get home after my shopping I had another destination in mind. Some 5 years ago I was privileged to meet in real life a young writer I’d been corresponding with from America. Patricia (Patti) Carrigan

the-rising

goo.gl/ua8cpmcontent_copy

The second part of the original book Antiserum. Written by my young friend then 15. She was a delight and Ju and I got very close to her. She came to the UK with a delegation from her home town and happened to be calling in at Chester for a short time. We went to meet her there. The time wasn’t long, about an hour, but at the end we all parted with Huge Hugs and the correspondence has continued ever since.
In order to let the family know she was going to be OK and that I wasn’t some predator stalking her daughter I’d also been writing to Patti’s Mom for a while. To be honest, at the end I almost felt like part of the family. Even so, it was a major surprise recently to get a message to say they were coming to the UK. Part business for her husband Tim and part holiday for them both. Would we be able to meet? Tracy knows I’m not good with people and tend to hide away but regardless I agreed. I think just to convince me I wasn’t being stalked Tracy had been in touch with Yvonne to ask to meet them too. They already had tickets to visit Chester Zoo so that was the place we agreed to meet.
Mike and I got there a little before 1.00 pm and finding out Yvonne and co would be a little late we agreed to meet inside by the elephants. We were standing there in the sunshine waiting for Yvonne when I saw two people coming towards us. No mistaking who they were. It was Hugs and handshakes all round. We had a few minutes to natter before Yvonne’s crew turned up so we quickly  discovered a great sense of humour. When we were all together it was time for a coffee so we’d all be able to say hello properly. Reuben promptly disappeared with my crutches, no doubt to shoot some poor unsuspecting alien since he loves Star Wars. Mike brought our drinks to the table and in order to occupy the hands of the octopus (Amelie) Tracy gave her a bottle of  water.
Everything was going swimmingly until Amelie launched the bottle of water and like a magnet it was propelled in my direction. Straight down to my spherical man parts in fact where it landed with a groan. ( I know I heard one). At that point I had a knee jerk reaction which cracked my leg on the underside of the table and an elbow jerk reaction too which sent my coffee into the air only to descend again in a spreading pattern. It covered my leather jacket, my jeans and my tee-shirt as well as he mother’s leg. Mike pointed out I could hold his hand leaving so people would take pity on the one who’d pee’d himself, and even more pity on his carer. Bloody Cheek. I dried out in the sun and we had a great afternoon round the zoo before it came time to leave and go our separate ways.

Tim, Me, Tracy and some random stranger who stalked us.
On Sunday they were due to go to Llangollen so I was able to give Tracy lessons on how to pronounce the place before she screwed her tongue so she couldn’t eat. I understand they enjoyed a Hot air balloon festival there. Today they’re off to Scotland. It was wonderful to meet them.
Hugs to all.

Have you reclaimed PPI ? & The Unicorn

Sunday 1st May.

Bed 12.15 am
Read to 1.10 am Ready for sleep.
Up at 6.18 am Miraculous.

Straight through to take my morning meds then grab a coffee to bring back. I signed into my mail and was horrified it was already over the 100 mark and the new stuff hadn’t even arrived. I got stuck in. At 7.00 am Mike’s alarm went off . It was dry outside despite the forecast but I just went through to his room and told him to turn the alarm off when it rang again. He could sleep in. By the time he got up at 9.40 am I was practically done so I let him make his own coffee and went through when I’d  done. I was tired out as though I hadn’t had my own lie-in this morning. I had to fight the idea of snoring in my chair.

There was a little mix up as to whether we were going to take some things over to Yvonne this morning, but it seemed they were going out. Then this afternoon they were going to a street fair. We could have taken the things in between their two outings but I thought that would make our timing very tight and we couldn’t enjoy a visit. Mike offered to drop them in on his way home by which time they’d be back from the fair. That was great. It was as well things worked that way as he nipped out to help the daughter of a neighbour move a piece of furniture they’d got jammed in the door. Thankfully he got dressed first.                                                                                                                   We left to go for lunch about 11.40 am  and ended up at the Bells of St Mary’s. It was good timing as they were just opening the carvery. A bit of a queue but not too bad. I’d been telling him to prepare for a shock, they’re introducing a pizza bar with help yourself salads. I should have let him sit down first. I noticed that they’re closing tomorrow until the 20th to prepare. We spent half out lunchtime speculating as to where it will go.

After lunch we headed for Prestatyn and a shop I hoped would give me some inspiration with gift ideas for my niece. It did.  I got two nice things the equivalent of the head I got Jo, only these weren’t broken yet. I thought maybe delivering by hand might prevent that from happening. Mike was asking if there was anywhere else I wanted. I answered “No thanks but I’m happy to carry on if there’s anywhere you want.” When we got back  in the car he brought us home which I thought was unlike him but when we were in the football went on and I understood. That gave me chance to work for an hour and a half though I kept nodding over the keyboard so we’ll re-assess that to an hour. When the football was over I went through and found he’d done the flowers already at half time. We started watching a Steve Martin film which would go off the minute Mike left unless he stayed till the end. He did leave at 5.20 pm so the TV went off and we carried the bags out to the car . There were quite a few and it would have made my journey on Tuesday quite difficult.

Once he’d gone, I put some episodes of NCIS on and settled until 9.00 pm. I locked Joey in, took my evening meds and came through. I went back long enough to  demolish a piece of rhubarb tart Mike had left me. I settled to work again. Another chunk. I was done with mail by 11.05 pm and able to start the blog. Early finish with luck.

Mates Day.

Teething troubles

Teething troubles

Monday 2nd May.

Bed 11.55 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Read till 12.45 am                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Up again at 1.53 am. I hoped to be able to try again in a couple of hours.

I found myself working until 6.51 am on the existing posts but there was a mysterious gap between about 3.00 a and 4.15 am where nothing was done though judging from the fact that the mouse was hanging off the desk until 4.15 am an attempt or two might have been made. What struck me as particularly lucky is that I hadn’t been answering a message or commenting when darkness struck or another famous ‘coded’ message might have appeared in Australia or somewhere. We’ll say there was just a Zzzz bridge between two periods of useful activity. As I finished that last period at 6.51 am, at 6.52 am new mail began to appear. I took a two minute break then jumped right back in the pool.

By 9.30 am I was stretching and pulling the ‘I’m so tired I’d better relax in the lounge’ card but that may have had something to do with HUtH being on early today. I went to watch it and only returned to work at 10.45 am. One thing I notice is that not enough people are taking advantage of the holiday to go out. The volume of mail is at an all time high today. Bargain Hunt was on early too at midday so I gave up in here at 11.45 am and went to make myself some lunch in the shape of some very healthy beef salad baps followed by a strawberry yoghurt. Once Bargain Hunt was over I found my jeans superglued to the chair and sunk into deep thought for a way to get out.              I woke had revelations at about 2.20 pm and found my hot-bot must have melted the glue and I could move. That saved me getting a hernia trying to climb out of them where they were. I went back to the office to work yet again. I worked hard until 4.30 pm then returned to the lounge for PYMWYMI, they were in an antiques market on the Continent today and the envy was dripping from my chin. So many nice things, not too expensive and me here. One of them got a beautiful figure of a greyhound.life size for £15. I had a work break from 5.15 pm to 5.45 pm while the quiz was on then I made tea (healthy ham salad baps this time, with a rhubarb yoghurt). I watched Without a Trace then SG1 before watching Sanctuary apart from the last two minutes when Joey set up a huge racket so I have no idea who is invading who but I know it’s in Indonesia. Thanks Joey. It’s possible this was because I was due to lock his cage and say goodnight but as he was already in there when I did it I’m not sure. When I got back the in box was overflowing again. I had to ignore many of the ‘likes’ and quite a few of the reblogs where I’d seen the original. Also if people had done a lot of posts I couldn’t go through them all so I did just some of them. Sorry Peeps but I’m tired. It still took me till 10.35 pm.  This blog has been shorter than usual but has still taken till 11.20 pm. I just have to add pics and music and I can go to bed. Out in the morning.

Look of expectation.

Look of expectation.

But I'm hungry......

But I’m hungry……

THEN 1960’s

Tuesday 3rd May.

Bed 11.30 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Read to 12.35 am Ready to sleep.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Woke at 1.18 am and thought B*gger this for a game of soldiers, and refused to move. Up at 3.12 am. Could live with that.

Though accepting my wakefulness, I did sit on the edge of the bed for a minute or two trying to decide in which order to do things this morning. I settled on work, meds and dressed so turned on the computer and signed into my mail. 42 since I closed down last night. I had my meds and some breakfast at 5.00 am then came back to work 30 minutes later. I worked until 6.38 am when I finally finished the first batch- plus the answers they generated, and stopped to get dressed. It’s possible I won’t get more now until about 7.10 am, but they’ll have to wait until I return from Chester this afternoon.                                                                                                                                                                                I left the house at 7.30 am and walked to the bus stop. Naturally the bus beat me to it and I had to speed up but the driver was outside having a non-smoke when I got there gasping for breath. We were soon under way and I sent Yvonne a text to let her know then shut my eyes. When I arrived in Chester a couple of minutes early there was no sign of them but then got a text to say they were on the way. I walked the length of the street to meet them. I spotted Yvonne texting and guessed it was to me so got my phone out. The message said ‘Just round the corner’, I was going to text back ‘So am I’ when she saw me and laughed. Her morning crisis, she’s left her purse in Ugo’s car.

We went to get a coffee and give me chance of bladder relief which is not some new kind of health cake. any more than bladder wrack is some kind of health issue or torture, though some people may not agree with me. After coffee I had a quick look upstairs at the clothes and the bedding but didn’t see anything. I did however manage to persuade Yvonne to let me get her a couple of things downstairs. We didn’t even come to blows about it. From there we went to another shop as Reuben had been promised the chance to look for alizard. He didn’t find one but did find some Power Rangers figures instead. Another shop where we bought nothing and then a wander downstairs in a WH Smith’s where there id often a lot of clearance stock. Today was no different and I managed to get as few little things for the kids and craft stuff for Yvonne. Then Reuben saw something he wanted. Yvonne patiently explained maybe next time as he’s chosen a toy today. That got thrown to the floor, he didn’t want it now. Yvonne was very patient but the screams started so we had to take him away from the toy altogether. Up in the lift, through the shop and outside in the street the screaming persisted, though not altogether convincing but he wasn’t backing down. I was delighted to see neither was Yvonne. Eventually the tantrum ran it’s course but not before every window on the street was wide open and people leaning out wondering where they air raid siren was.                                                                                                                                                                                 He’s a beggar for trying to force your hand by playing to the crowd but I’m so proud of Yvonne for the way she handled it because all parents know how embarrassing it is when the howling starts and the world and his wife thinks the child is being mistreated rather than the parent is.

When it came time to go I was at the bus stop about a minute before the bus was due to go. It was ten minutes later I realised it had gone. RATS! I had to say my goodbye’s and walk to the main bus station to try for one of the company that has a different route and takes longer. I got there about 12.05 pm and had to wait until 12.30 pm. Fine. I got on the bus and wondered if I should have waited another 20 mins and got my usual from there. The journey wasn’t too bad but I’d done my usual hour’s journey and only got as far as Flint, and that’s where my normal bus number passed us. It took another half an hour to get home, till 2.00 pm. Lucky for me the chippy doors were still open so  I went and ordered chips, sausage and curry sauce. I told her how upset I’d been to find myself pouring gravy instead of curry sauce last time. She took it in good part. Despite an argument she charged me less and also gave me an extra sausage. I was the last customer of the lunchtime session.

I came home and ate as I was apologising to Joey for deserting him so much later than usual. Then I had to desert him again to come back to work. I worked till 4.30 pm and then again between 5.15 pm and 6.00 pm I managed to get the post down but not complete it. At 6.00 pm I put Without a Trace on but don’t remember seeing the end. I missed SG1 and also Sanctuary. It was dark when I woke and some kind of haunting thing was on. On the TV that is, not in real life. I have Joey for that. Neither of us were happy. Me because I’d missed my programmes and slept past 9.00 pm, Joey because I hadn’t put a light on so he could come out to play. I had to shut his cage door before I dared put the light on. I took my meds and came through.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          It took me until 11.15 pm to clear the accumulated mail before I could hit the blog.Consider this a late one.

Bed. 12.06 am Legs slathered.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Read 1.13 am Book 4 The Burning Land and still as exciting. Fairly quickly to sleep.                                                                                                                                                                                  Up. 2.27 am  A trip to loo land then back to sign in to mail. I hoped to doze off again before breakfast.

The first round of mail kept me going until 4.50 am so that was the perfect time for breakfast and medications ( to keep The Hulk chained). At 5.20 am I thought trying for an hour in my chair was a good idea.It was an idea that didn’t come off as I remembered while I had breakfast to put the washing machine on. I returned to work after breakfast until the washer was due to finish, when I put the washing on to dry. As I was already around, I checked the post box, saw more had arrived and just sat to do it which covered me until 6.52 am. I got dressed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              At 7.00 am I sat in my chair in the lounge, stretched out my legs and closed my eyes. I must have been giving secret code signals in budge because Joey chose that exact moment to start attacking his swing which has bells on, his ladders which have bells on and in turn his two mirrors which also have bells on. All this accompanied by his rather melody free singing.  I talked gently to him and I tutted and even imitated the budgie squeaks for “Your place or mine” but I couldn’t shut him up. I had to sit it out until he went quiet. I nodded off but at 8.05 am was woken by the phone. It had to be a stranger as everyone I know avoids ringing me as I don’t answer the phone. I had to go and check for messages anyway in case it was urgent but it was  the millionth call to ask me if I’d reclaimed my PPI. Let me make this as clear as I can, SOD OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE. Don’t call me I’ll call you (never).

I got the now dry washing out and put it on the airer. Then I returned to work to deal with the latest stuff. There was quite a lot of it but I was determined to pace myself. I paced myself up to 9.55 am then went to watch my HUtH. Joey was having a fierce argument with the bird that inhabits the big mirror. He kept rapping his beak against it but the other bird countered with precise raps of it’s own. I don’t know what he’ll do if I ever take that mirror down and replace it with a big picture instead.                                    At 11.00 am I returned to work for a while trying to clear as much as I could before lunch I finished at 11.45 am to go and start it. I was having the liver and onions today with some micro chips. It was very nice. I watched Bargain Hunt until 1.00 pm. Jade had sent a message to say she was coming today which shew changed to say she ‘d come tomorrow instead if that was OK. I had to say it wasn’t as MuJo may come Thurs or Friday and I don’t know which. So,it was change back to today again and about 1.30 pm. Fine, that would leave me clear for Dil’s arrival.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               It was 2.10 pm before she arrived and I was worried that if she did her two hours it might just conflict with Dil’s arrival. When she did arrive I said I was going to try and get my head down for a while in my bedroom because I was short on sleep. That was OK she told me. Beggar me, I’d nodded off nicely when at 2.35 pm the hoover started up outside my bedroom door. I returned to work again. At 3.30 pm Jade asked if there was anything more she could do. I should have gone and checked but I just said not if there’s nothing she could see. I passed her pay and she left. I carried on working until 4.15 pm then decided that was enough and went through. Dil arrived at 4.25 pm so I made him a cuppa before the PYMWYMI started. He’d been to see his grandson, my great nephew Nathan before coming to me. Nathan is 1 today. I’ve got his gifts here as I haven’t been able to get them to him. Lee says it’s not a problem, he can have them on 22nd when we get together for his and Karen’s birthdays. Not a solution I like but the choices are few.

When TV went off at 6.00 pm the ritual humiliation started. I was beaten 7-5 at Yahtzee. I was beaten by just one slice of pie at Trivial Pursuits and then hammered at cribbage just to put the boot in. Somebody left for home whistling. I nailed the door shut hoping he might have left his car keys behind then I went and did a quick tidy up, washed the pots, took my meds and then locked Joey in his cage. I put the landing lights on in the hall then went through to my room.                                                                                 I worked on emails until 11.00 pm then started on the blog. I intend to be in bed for midnight and will catch up on the remains of the mail in the morning.

Bed .12.00 am                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Read 12.58 am.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Up at 2.21 am though in fairness that should read awake at followed by up at 2.33 am when I knew I wasn’t going to fall asleep again..

I can’t recall a time when I didn’t get up early. In the RAF, I never had a problem being up before the sergeant came in to suggest that we’d better be holding our socks. I suppose the only difference I can recall is that I had to get dressed early whereas now I can lounge about for hours before I need do that, unless I’m going out of course. Most of our supermarkets have a strict no pyjamas policy. Of course they don’t enforce a strict policy of battledress or best blues like the RAF did but standards are dropping everywhere. I wouldn’t mind going back to those days when I had a 28″ waist. . I still have the 28″ waist of course but now it keeps warm wrapped in another 10″of blubber. Anyhoo, back to today,I worked until glancing up at the clock it was 4.37 am. Unfortunately, what made me glance at the clock was stretching my neck after having nodded off over a hot keyboard. I don’t know how long I’d been out but I came up like  unicorn where I’d been resting my head on a pen and the skin had grown round it. I just hoped it was still the same day.

At 5.45 am I went to take my meds and get some breakfast. It was getting quite light and when I’d finished Joey had changed position in his cage so I opened his door so he could exit when ready. When I returned with a coffee, my face bearing a grin that despite the shakes here was still some coffee in the cup, I just continued where I’d left off. Post was coming in all the time, especially at the 7.10 am mark so it was 8.25 am before I had an empty mail box. I’d make an effort to keep on top of it, but for now I could get dressed ready to go to Pauline’s at 9.00 am. I want to get back as I’m expecting deliveries today with luck.                                                                                                                                   I got back from the shop and unpacked my bag. After just finishing a couple more pieces of post I headed fro the lounge to sit with Joey. If he started squawking again I was prepared to sit on him. My HUtH cme on and I was enjoying it. Naturally that meant I started to nod but I came awake with a start when I heard something. When I finally realised what it as I almost broke my neck dashing to the front door. The Postman had turned away to leave but I did the only thing I could and jumped on his back. I spent three hours explaining to the police I wasn’t trying to steal the mail. I got all the parcels I was waiting for and sat opening them while HUtH was still on. Once it was over I came through to leave feedback and to deal with any mail that had come in. I worked until 11.50 am and then being clear I could go and see to lunch. I settled on salad baps again today. My oh my, I’ll be so healthy. I must be miles ahead on the 5 a month thing now.

Following lunch and Bargain Hunt I returned to my room to see if there had been more mail. I really didn’t want to get behind today. By 3.00 pm I was clear and thought I might just treat myself to Escape from the Country. I think I got as far as Escape before my eyes went and the picture taped to the inside of my eyelids became fascinating again. My ‘Put Your Money Where  Your Mouth Is’ started at 4.30 pm but I was still practising  with the buzz saw at that point and didn’t regain consciousness until 4.43 pm. No way was I leaving the screen to come and check my monitor then.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Mike arrived for the last 15 minutes so I quickly made him a coffee so he could enjoy it. We caught up with a natter during the start of the quiz Countless which was on next. I knew I wouldn’t be returning to my room for a while yet. At 6.00 pm I turned over for Without a Trace which had quite a sad ending this time. Part way through Mike refused my offer of making him something to eat ( he’s no fool) and opted for the chippy. Let me be totally clear now, I did not have anything after showing how healthy I could eat at lunchtime. ( Just as well he hasn’t seen the last couple of days). At 7.00 pm he was back with his meal and watched The Great Antique Road Trip with me. Two good competitors and a great show.( Charles Hanson wasn’t on this one).

At 8.00 pm I channel hopped again to ‘Sanctuary’ which I’ve started following. They were being audited by a particularly unpleasant Government lackey who was making threats. How dare they threaten Amanda Tapping like that. I’d love to go and live in that house she and the others occupy. I’m guessing it must be a massive landmark in Canada though at first I thought it was a church. At 9.00 pm as it ended I went through to take my meds, locked Joey in his cage and deserted Mike. Ireturned to pay the price for being absent so long. It took until 10.57 to clear the mail and be able to start the blog. I think I’m online for an 11.45 pm finish if I’m lucky and if not a lot more mail has arrived.

Friday 6th May.

Bed. 12.05 am  Mike had been talking to me bout the terrible effect the non-smoking tablets are having on him. Bad dreams and depression. I told him to stop taking them.  Read until 12.58 am was probably asleep before the light finished fading after I switched it off.                                                                                                                                                               Up at 2.25 am. A trip to tinkle land didn’t mean I could go back to sleep where I left off. If I was having a mucky dream I’d have to catch up later.

I’d finished the first lot’The Overnighters’ by 4.15 am so went through to the kitchen to take my meds and refill the trays with another week’s worth. I thought I might as well have breakfast while I was there so toasted a bap and smothered it in butter. It was 5.00 am before I returned to my room with a coffee and started on the mail again. 5.43 am and I was clear. I was going to sit in the lounge with Joey and hopefully get the buzz saw out but I decided to search ebay for Reuben’s birthday gift. Yvonne told me he wants a giant Hulk so I’m watching one now at 12″ tall, I haven’t seen anything bigger.                                                                                                                                                                                   At 6.30 am I did go to the lounge and nodded until almost 7.15 am. Joey seemed to say “About bloody time” when I came to, but he soon kicked up a stink when I left to come back to work.  There was quite a lot in but I could only work until 8.55 am then go and make a coffee for Mike which I took through.  I was waking him early as when MuJo had arrived last week it was round about 10.00 am . I wanted him semi conscious and at least dressed before that happened. But, he did say he had a meeting to attend this morning so in fact he must have been glad to be up. He left at 10.00 am and I sat watching HUtH. When there was no message on my phone by 10.30 am I came back here and checked Facebook where John insists on messaging me. There was a message to say they weren’t coming as Muriel was unwell. I said I hoped she’d be OK and signed out.

Once 11.00 am arrived I knew I could return to work so had a blitz to bring me up to date for 11.50 am. It was time to rush and peel some sweet potatoes then but I just didn’t fancy sausages so I had corned beef, mash and beans. It was lovely. Bargain Hunt came on and I waited till it was over to settle in my chair for a kip. I only got half an hour then but it helped. I had more work in to do and I needed to go to ebay as well. Instead of watching Escape to the Country at 3.00 pm I lay on the bed for a while. I times it well as I got up at 3.55 pm which gave me time to hammer at the mail I’d received before leaving at 4.30 pm for PYMWYMI. Mike sent a message to say he was on his way back and he arrived at 6.00 pm just after the quiz. We watched Without a Trace then I went for a shower while Mike fell sleep in his chair.                                                                      After the shower I went back through and watched the rest of SG1, and Mike woke up at the end. I made us a sandwich each to eat while we watched Sanctuary. At 9.00 pm I came through to my room for the final assault. It took until 10.42 pm to finish the mail and then it was blog time. Bed by 11.30 pm.

Bed. 11.40 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Read until 12.45 am sleep didn’t come easy.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Up at 3.05 am . An improvement again? 2 hours + maybe. I think I’d like to be starting this conversation  from 6 hours +.

I wonder if it might be possible to change the sleep pattern without the pressures of a deadline to keep. Perhaps I should try it for a week or so. A proper break.                          Anyhoo, I started work on the mail taking a break at 4.50 am to take my meds and get some breakfast. The time had no relevance but I’d just finished a personal message and thought it a natural break point. I returned to work at 5.20 am with a coffee for company.                                                                                                                                                                  I was up to date at 6.15 am and as Mike’s alarm hadn’t gone off I carried on with getting the rubbish and the recycling out. I came back to find an interesting post about tweaking Amazon’s listings by Nicholas C Rossis  http://nicholasrossis.me/2016/05/07/how-to-tame-amazons-algorithm-to-increase-your-sales-rank/ it made interested if a little complicated reading. I think I’m glad I don’t write any more and have to worry about things like his. I had finished reading by 6.30 am and was just waiting for the alarm so I could do coffee for Mike.

No alarm came so I guessed it hadn’t been put on last night, or been put on to go off later ( the latter proved to be the case). At 6.40 am I took a drink through and woke him. I spoke loud and long enough so that he had to form answers and therefore wake up. He did, and even got up within 5 minutes too..no reminder…no alarm…no kidding!! What’s more, we were out of the house by 7.30 am and on our way.We were out of ASDA by 9.05 am and hadn’t bothered with a drink there so that Mike could have a bacon bap at The Range. While he did so I chose a couple of throws for the two armchairs in the lounge and a cushion which I couldn’t resist even though it doesn’t match with anything at all.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          From there we drove to Flint. A walk around my favourite shop Homies got me a few items then a visit to Jolley’s next door sorted Joey out with a couple of seed bells. We took the bag back to the car, picked up the chocolates for Temptations and went for a coffee. Ceri and Kyle were on duty this morning . I ordered the drinks and passed the chocs over. Kyle took for the drinks and put the receipt on the tray so Ceri knew what to make, though she could have done it blindfold. She came over for a chat when we sat down and told us she’s handed in her notice and leaves in a month. It’s good news for her but not great for the rest of us. Most of the customers enjoy the banter with her and she does draw in custom.

After we left there we paid a visit to B&M (known as BUM Bargains) which is a great shop and even Mike bought things there too. Time was getting on now at 12.35 pm so we decided to go for lunch. A game of rock, paper, scissors , lizard, Spock ( Thanks Big Bang Theory) didn’t get us very far so we decided to stay local and go to The Bells in Holywell. It’s quite basic but it’s cheap and cheerful. After lunch I got to go to the much bigger Homies  here which was good, I managed to get a few things here as well including something no home should be without…..an extending fork.!! Great for pinching chips off someones plate in the restaurant and looking innocent.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      After that we came home, getting in about 2.00 pm. The shopping was soon put away and I came through to work. It took me to 6.00 pm to clear the mail and then when I got into the lounge I just nodded off in my chair. About 7.15 pm I made us a sandwich and got our cakes out. We watched half a DIY S.O.S and then a full one which took me up to 9.00 pm when I  went through my usual routine before coming through. It had been a beautiful day but outside it was pouring down with a lightning storm from France (Thanks a lot Mel). It took until almost 11.00 pm to deal with the mail before starting the blog. Mike has promised to do my legs before I publish so I have to be quick.

I’m in need of a break and I know I’m becoming a bit more insular again at the moment. I’ve decided not to blog for a while or deal with any messages or posts. Please understand that if you comment on this post and don’t receive thanks, it’s not a lack of manners on my part, it’s that I’m trying hard not to live my life in front of the screen making sure you all know I care. I do care, but you’ll have to take it on faith for a while. Please forgive me and look after yourselves.

Jo’s Party & Attempted Murder

Sunday 24th April.

I managed bed by 12.10 am last night, I didn’t dare go anywhere near the inbox though. I finished reading at 12.45 am and settled for sleep. I think I had time to blink once and open my eyes before I was up again. It was 2.06 am. It was 5.43 am before I had emptied the mail box and decided to go have my meds, some breakfast and then an investigation of my inner eyelids in my chair. I was awake again before 7.00 am and wandered back to my room after opening Joey’s cage. I did the loose post and then worked on the main post as it came in. It took till 9.43 am to clear that lot.

I took my mug through to wash and then prepared Mike’s mug and put the kettle on. It was about 9.55 am I took his coffee through. He;d been asleep since about 10.30 pm the night before. We got ready and left the house at about 11.00 am so I could go round a couple of shops before heading for Jo’s birthday meal. I bought myself another head, in red this time. Mike suggested I should try buying one that worked for a change so I could swap it for the one on my shoulders.                                                        We arrived at the pub at 12.20 pm and I hadn’t realised so many people would be there. It was lovely to see Dil of course and there was my great nephew Taylor with his Mum Deb, ex partner to my nephew David. There was Jess, Dil and Lynne’s daughter and her young son Rylan with whom I had some fun. Lee, Jen and Nathan and of course Jo and Karen and a surprise to me, Jo’s boyfriend whom I knew nothing about.

It was a nice enough meal but the wait for food was terrible.  The atmosphere on the other hand was brilliant. Rylan and Reuben played and though noisy they played nicely. Amelie was in good humour and Nathan was as full of smiles and waves as always. I think Lee and Jen liked the picture of Nathan I’d had put on a canvas and I think Yvonne liked the jumper I’d got her and the outfit and stuff I’d got Amelie. Reuben liked his toys. Karen and Jo seemed to love the big shoe lamps I’d bought them yesterday ( pre-birthday pressies) and they liked their canvasses. Jo liked her birthday gifts but I was devastated when opening the Tattoo Phrenology Head I’d bought of which the first one had arrived smashed, to find this one broken but not smashed. She’s going to try to glue it but I’m ready to get yet another.

When the party broke up we headed for home. I made Mike a coffee then we did Ju’s flowers before I fell asleep in the chair about 4.00 pm. When I woke up at 4.30 pm he’d gone. I started in on the day’s work and carried on until 7.00 pm when I went to make a sandwich. At 8.30 pm I took my meds, locked Joey in ( his lawyer lost a last minute appeal) and came through to carry on. I finished the mail at 10.40 pm and started straight in on the blog which should be done by 11.40 pm with luck.

It feels pretty good.  I worked on mail until 5.00 am then decided to get my meds and have some breakfast, only a toasted bap but that’s plenty. I got back at 5.40 am and carried on with the post, gathering more as I went. It was 9.42 before I could shout PARIS !. It didn’t mean anything but I wanted to shout something that began with a capital. My mailbox was empty and I quickly dressed and got my shoes on to take my prescription request to the chemist.                                                                         On the way back I made a quick call at Pauline’s before heading home. I was back in time for HUtH.

As that programme came to an end Bev knocked on the door. I opened it and she came through to do a test call on the intercom using the pendant which I’m supposed to wear all the time when I’m in but which I had to go and get from the hall where I hang it. She stayed for more than half an hour chatting, mainly about diabetes this week. When it was time for her to go it was approaching lunch time and she’d given me pause for thought about food. I decided against a liver and onions meal and settled for a chips with curry sauce and two buttered baps. Fair play, I did have a healthy rhubarb yoghurt afterwards though.                                                                                                                  After Bargain Hunt I was going to have a power nap but I’d just got my head down when my phone went. It was a text from Jade to check Wednesday at 10.00 am would be OK. Since we missed last week altogether except for what I did, I said that would be great. Awake now I went back to work. What was there kept me going until almost 3.00 pm then I went to watch Escape to the Country. I expected to close my eyes then but somehow didn’t. However, I did straight afterwards and didn’t wake until 4.40 pm, ten minutes in to my PYMWYMI antiques programme. I watched the rest of it then came back to work for 50 minutes before going to have a light tea and watch Without a Trace. SG1 followed and then Sanctuary.

I turned the TV off, locked Prisoner 99 up and said goodnight to him then went to the kitchen for my meds. Finally I headed for the bedroom/Office/Pit. Plenty of mail waiting for me which took me until 10.37 pm to deal with before I could do the blog. I will be in bed for 11.30 pm and ready for my trip out tomorrow.

Tuesday 26th April.

Bed 11.27 pm last night.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Read till 12.25 am. Lights out but sleep took a short while.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Up at 2.39 am. Not as happy as I could be. A visit to Loo Loo Land and then back to open my gmail box. 37 showing at the moment. I was done at 4.53 am and went through to the kitchen for my usual. I had some toast while there. Coming out I went to the bathroom to trim my moustache before going out. I think it must be the fastest growing hair on my body. Cleverly I snipped my top lip at the same time but it seemed to be OK. I took my coffee to the bedroom and went back to work. I lit a cigarette and was distracted wondering when I’d bought red filters. It sunk in, I hadn’t. It took a while to stem the flow of blood, not helped by the occasional sip of warm coffee that set it off again. I finished the coffee, decided I didn’t need a blood transfusion so went back to work. Or I tried to, everything I tried to open wouldn’t. The little icon spun the wrong way and the message came that they took too long to respond. I kept trying and eventually it seemed to be OK again. I stopped work at 6.00 am to get dressed.

At 7.30 am I walked over in the freezing wind to get the bus. An hour of eyelid inspecting and I was there. Unfortunately, no-one else was. I had chance to smoke a cigarette and take a walk round a shop while I waited fr them to catch up.Reuben chose a good time to have a lie in, he must have known how cold it was this morning. We met up just in time for a visit to out usual watering hole and just in time for me to rid myself of the morning coffee voluntarily rather than the way that has me slinking home in shame. Yvonne ordered my new coffee while I got rid of the last.                                                                                                                                                                                                    When we’d finished in there and I’d had my hugs with Amelie it was time to shop. Reuben is going into his ‘big boy’s bed’ and though I’d bought him a duvet cover a few weeks ago, he needed sheets, pillow cases and their protectors plus pillows. I have a new duvet he can have. I managed to load myself down with everything and make a bolt for the counter even picking up a jumper for Ugo and one for myself on the way past. Not too much in the way of argument today. With the bags hanging from the trolley it made Amelie’s ride very much like that of the Bumper Car and she was riding into them as they passed.

We had a look in a new jewellers then waltzed round to the supermarket for a pizza for Reuben as that’s what he said he wants for his lunch. There seemed to be plenty of other things needed when we got in there and also one or two things we didn’t know we needed like a rhubarb pie for me. We moved on to a shop where Yvonne could look at the things she’d like to decorate Amelie’s room with ( if we ever win the lottery). Eventually all good things come to an end and it was time to head for the bus stop which coincidentally was just outside this shop. I’d barely got there when we saw the bus coming. I got a rare kiss from Reuben and a nice hug and kiss from Yvonne. Amelie was asleep by then. I got on, waved and the bus pulled off.                                                                                                                                                                                                                     With no need to stop at Pauline’s I was soon home again. Joey seemed pleased. I made lunch and at 1.45 pm went back to work. There was a lot waiting. I was just getting into it when the sneezing fit started. You know the old rhym, One for Sorrow, Two for Joy, well 36 is redecorating your computer screen. Three packets of tissues later and someone has given me a tap on the head which had been left open so my nose is constantly running. It’ got a lot more energy than it has a right too. I have a cold.

I worked until 4.30 pm then watched my PYMWYMI through blurry eyes. Pointless I saw except for the last few minutes as I was helping myself to rhubarb pie and custard in the kitchen. At 6.00 pm Without a Trace came on and like a switch had been thrown I was asleep. I woke up for part of SG1 and for some of Sanctuary then I was gone again until about the last ten minutes of Sanctuary. I should probably add that to whatever sleep I get tonight now. At 9.00 pm I locked Joey up, took my meds and came through to start again. Mail took me until 10.57 pm and then it was time for the blog. Midnight is my target for bed.

Bed at 11.55 pm.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Read to 12.40 am as finished the third book and I’m bereft. Nothing to read now.                                                                                                                                                                                    Up at 2.32 am.   Not exactly raring to go but decided I’m willing to return to bed at any time the fancy takes me. I made a flying visit to the Kingdom of Looe and then came back to sign into my mail. Over the last few days I’ve been going into the blogs I follow and changing them back from daily to immediate which is making a great difference. Firstly it seems to be working again, a problem that had prompted a change to daily in the first place. And Secondly, the deluge is much more a dignified trickle now and easier to cope with. There are still blogs I need to change back from daily but there’s no rush. Everything else is coming to me as it’s being sent and though it spreads it out more over the day there are less to clear at any one time. So, I might have been tied to the desk until 8.52 am but at least the numbers never looked overwhelming.

I had an argument with myself about whether to go to Pauline’s or not. I won. Just as I was getting my socks on I overruled myself and couldn’t go. That left me sulky and grumbling for ages but I knew I’d need lottery there tomorrow and my TV mag so better stay in the warm today and pick up a few more card tricks and learn some more Trivia answers before Dil arrived this evening. The postman came and brought a letter to say no increase in my private pension this year. THANKS Government !! At least it makes notification to the benefits people easy. He also brought me a voucher for £10 from the Government for answering questions on the survey I did. No wonder there’s no money for pensions. Before Jade was due at 10.00 am I received a message to say she was running 20 minutes late. Not a major problem really as I’m here all morning but it was actually almost 11.00 am when she arrived. As usual I just left her to it.                                                                                                                                                                                Marta Beaman, a lovely lady from  https://plainandfancygirl.com/2016/04/27/all-creatures-great-and-small-the-power-of-pets/  did a nice post on animals /pets and made mention of Oscar and his winning ways as my alarm clock. As it’s been a long time since he’s been mentioned I thought I’d share a photograph of him occupying my chair to make sure I don’t get to sit there.

There are old posts from me going back into pre-history describing the cruel and unjust methods he used to get me out of bed.                                                                                              When Jade left I was able to make lunch which was two beef salad baps and a yoghurt today. I sat and ate watching snooker as my Bargain Hunt was over  I suppose I could have watched the end of it as she left at 12.40 pm but I was starving. At 2.00 pm I returned to work and stayed here until 4.10 pm. I’d only been in the lounge ten minutes watching a little more of the snooker when Dil arrived. I made him a tea then turned over for our Antiques programme.                                                                                                            We chatted about Sunday and seeing everyone. We’d both just had texts from Jo to confirm we were going to meet again on 22nd May for the next batch of birthday celebrations. I must check though as I don’t think she mentioned where.

When the quiz was over the TV went off and battle commenced. The Yahtzee was a draw at 4- 2 then 2 -4. The Trivia which was the longest and most drawn out game we’ve had in a long time ended in a worthy win for Dil after answering How do you write 99 in Roman numerals. It was time for him to go after I threw his coat at him and ordered him to ‘Begone’. I locked the front door and drew the curtain against the cold. Joey had just gone in so I locked the door then went into the kitchen to wash the pots (which I dirtied by eating the rest of the rhubarb pie) and taking my meds.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          By 9.45 pm I was back in my room with the ton of mail that had arrived. It took until 10.55 pm to clear what there was then so I could start the blog. I shall be getting my beauty sleep about 11.45 pm ready for an outing with MuJo tomorrow.

Bed 11.50 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Read till 12.25 am as I just had a brochure to read. Lights out and sleep not far behind.                                                                                                                                                                            Up at 2.18 am.

First of all was the inevitable trip to the loo then I came back and signed on. I checked the bank and then wrote out an email to the Benefits section at the local authority to let them know there is no increase to my private pension but that I am not now paying tax. I gave them the new figure to recalculate benefit (if any) from. Once hat was out of the way I concentrated on my emails. I worked until the box was empty at 5.02 am and then headed for the kitchen to take my meds and have some breakfast. When I returned at 5.30 am I carried on working  until the box was empty again at 8.42 am. A perfect time to get dressed ready to go to the chemist and chase up my missing drugs and to Pauline’s for my TV mad before I forgot it. I thought I might as well do the lottery while I was there. It actually looked beautiful out there but I wasn’t going to trust the temperature. On went the woolly jumper. The chemist was having a problem getting one of my drugs and it would be next week before they did though there were enough to tide me over. I asked if I could take the rest but no, as the chemist wasn’t on the premises they couldn’t release them. I was so cross I didn’t even bother reiterating that I always ask for my drugs to come when they have them an anything missing can come later. I don’t want to leave it till the last thing is in. I think they’d have made me wait until next week so I arranged for everything else to be delivered after 4.00 pm today. The chemist should be in when the shop is open but I know he travels quite a  way. The jumper was a good idea as the sunshine carried no heat this morning.

Before I reached Pauline’s I saw one of my neighbours  stroking a dog, I called “You never stroke me like that”, so she did. Shame she had to call me Good Boy too though. I wasn’t long in Pauline’s and got everything I wanted except some Liquorice Allsorts . I knew Mike would want to eat his if he came tonight and would hate for him to eat alone. I also asked Pauline for the winning Lottery tickets, so who knows. If you hear a shout of ‘Ey up’ outside your house, it may well be me. Don’t throw shoes ( unless they’re a very stylish size 10 ). I returned home at 9.25 am and did a little more work but stopped at 10.00 am to watch HUtH with Joey but I think he was in a mood because I’d hardly seen him this morning. Also I had to put his millet in his food tray as the stalk wasn’t strong enough to hold it.  I relented and got a fresh one out.                                    MuJo arrived at 10.00 am which is very early for them. I saw to the drinks and we chatted a while but at 10.30 am they were anxious to go. I pointed out the time as being far to early for lunch but they said Muriel needed the bank and the Post Office first. Given that I asked if it was OK if I made a quick nip to Home Bargains. It was. What a success that was. I practically flew round the store but I knew where I was looking for what I wanted. Yvonne is going to be doing up Amelie’s bedroom and had seen some nice lights for the wall when we were out on Tuesday. I was pretty sure I’d seen some at this branch of my favourite shop. I had, and what a bargain.

I was just walking out with my purchases when I met MuJo who’d come for a look themselves. Great, I got to go round again at a more liesurely pace and picked up some gifts for my Great Nephew who will be One next week. Muriel managed to find a few things there and I know John got something too. When we left it was straight back to the car and then off to lunch. It was pre-decided today that a return to The Bells of St Mary’s was on the cards. We were there only minutes after they started serving. The till area was almost free and we could quickly order but the line of people waiting to get their meal was massive. I was disappointed that when I got my meat there were hardly any boiled onions, very few carrots and scrappy roast potatoes. If I waited there for new dishes to be brought everything else would go cold. Still what I had I enjoyed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          After lunch MuJo asked if I’d mind going to Abakhan for my coffee. I didn’t mind. It’s an old mill where they sell material and everything related to fabrics even to wedding gowns and those funny little hats women wear for such occasions. I know of old they also have a good craft shop, a wool shop and a gift shop though that is very expensive. We enjoyed our drink and a look round the various departments. It was still pouring down as we headed for home. We were back by 2.30 pm which was unusual and because of the weather they weren’t too long before leaving to travel home themselves. Once they’d gone I saw a text from Mike to say he was on his way so I started work. I broke at 4.30 pm. I was watching PYMWYMI when Mike arrived so I made him a coffee while he dropped his luggage in his room. Then my drug courier arrived just before 5.00 pm so I c0uld stop worrying about that.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       When the quiz Pointless was on I made Mike something to eat. We watched Without a Trace but think I may have nodded off towards the end, either that or they now amalgamate part of SG1 into the story because when I opened my eyes that’s what was there. I was out a good hour and yet still somehow managed to miss a chunk of Sanctuary as well. At 9.00 pm I took my meds, locked Joey away and came through t work. It ook until 11.00 pm to finish the emails and start the blog. It’s going to be close to midnight I think.

Bed 11.58 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Read to 1.15 am Couldn’t sleep.

I got up again at 1.45 am and started to read again being prepared to fall asleep reading if I must, which I did sometime after 2.05 am which is the last time I remember. I was up again at 4.00 am. After a trip to  the loo I went straight to the kitchen and took my meds then brought the drawer through and replenished the drawer from the stuff that arrived yesterday then replenished the drugs tray for the next week. I returned with a coffee and set to work on my mail at 4.35 am. I finally got clear at 6.56 am so I was able to have a short break before it started coming again, That lasted for just a couple of minutes and then I was at it until 9.00 am.

I’d gone through to the lounge and was relaxing with Frasier when Mike walked in about 9.10 am. Not bad for someone who’d slept from before 10.30 pm last night. I only know as I turned his TV off at 10.30 pm. I made his coffee while he struggled to raise the venetian blinds on his eyes. I stayed in the lounge with HUtH till 11.00 am and Mike only moved long enough to make himself a second coffee. As I went back to work Mike went to his room to get dressed ready to go out.                                                                 The mail was going down OK when he came in to say goodbye, he’d see me tonight. I carried on until 11.35 pm then decided to go peel my sweet potatoes for lunch. Once that was done I took my pre-foodies, put the sausages on the grill and cut the potatoes ready to be boiled. My potatoes were mashed, peas were in the microwave while I dished up the sausages then prepared the chipshop style gravy before adding the peas and putting the gravy on. I was ready to eat at 12.05 pm. After Bargain Hunt I was ready to return to work. I just didn’t know it would keep me occupied until 4.30 pm. At 5.15 pm I returned to it until 5.50 pm when I was pretty clear. I needed to be as I wouldn’t be returning to it until at least 9.00 pm.

I was watching Without a Trace when I got a 6.30 pm text from Michael to say he was on his way back. I saw SG1 then at 8.00 pm went for my shower. When I cam back to the lounge Michael still hadn’t arrived but about 8.30 pm he walked in. I made a coffee and he told me how bad the traffic and the weather had been. At 9.00 pm Have I Got News For You came on so I decided to stay for that too. When I’d taken my meds and finally came through there were 51 messages waiting with more coming in. Sometimes you answer one at one end of the list which generates a new one at the other end. I worked until 10.45 pm then started the blog. I intend to be in bed by midnight as it’s shopping day tomorrow and I have all my early morning duties with the rubbish, the recycling and turfing Mike out of his bed.

I put myself straight to work on ebay ordering what I’d decided I wanted for Lee’s birthday. Though his lovely wife Jen says not to get him anything I find I can’t do that. Lee has been important to me for his whole life. I have to think hard about Karen now to find something special .                                                                                                                       I worked on the mail until 5.00 am then went for my usual jaunt to the kitchen.I had toast with lashings of butter and by 6.30 am felt sick. But, after breakfast I’d seen to the kitchen bin and the food waste bins. I’d taken them outside but left the bins on the step to take down when we went out.  After washing my hands I’d returned to work   on the emails taking delight in the fact that I had time to enjoy some of the stories, especially the Guitar Mancer serial by my friend Teagan.                                                              https://teagansbooks.com/2016/04/30/guitar-mancer-episode-6-audition/                                                                                                                                                                                             At 6.00 am Mike’s alarm went off so I finished what I was doing and then went to the kitchen and made a coffee. One more alarm had gone while I was in there and then the third just as I took his drink in. After the alarm going off I expected a better response than Uh Uh when I said the drink was there. I returned to ework but there was no movement from there until after the fourth alarm. At least I’d only made the one visit.

I went through to the lounge to open Joey’s cage at 6.45 am  and was surprised to find Mike awake rather than sleeping in the chair. We decided what flowers we’d want for Ju’s vase this morning. Somehow we were on our way at 7.00 am. We parked up and I got cash while Mike grabbed a trolley. Inside the store I went to get my spuds while I asked Mike to choose the flowers. Then in tandem we went round the rest of the shop getting what was needed.Towards the end of the supermarket I asked Mike to pick up my pop while I got some milk. There was one of the large carts they use to transport the milk in the aisle and I had to go behind it to get the milk. I was just leaning over to get the milk when I felt a thump on my right hip and I started to topple . “Murder” I cried and two heads came round  the end of the cart. One was a member of staff who’d been using an industrial floor cleaner  and had gone into the front of the cart with a real wallop which had then sent it into me. He grabbed my arm to pull me upright as I tried to get my crutches into a position to support me, The second face was Mike who was trying to get the crutches back on the ground since he felt there was more support that waving over my shoulders like a paralytic spider. The accident prone polisher who tried to polish me off was very apologetic and offered to get me a chair so I could sit a while. I said I was OK.

Mike and I moved off though I was moving quite gingerly since the floor was wet and slippy where the machine had been. I have to admit my hip hurt and I said to Mike that I should maybe faint now and then sue the store. He suggested I might get my shopping for free at least. I suggested he run back and pick up a 55″ screen TV first.  When we finished in the supermarket we headed to Th Range again for bacon baps for breakfast. Don’t blame me it’s all his fault. I’ve bought great salad stuffs this morning again. There’s another good shop close by where I managed to get a few things I wanted  before we got in the car again and headed for Flint.                                             When we parked up we stopped to have a cigarette and walked to a shop I needed before we went fore coffee, His mouth opened in a big drool when he saw it was Sian on today. He almost behaved himself when he saw her son was working with her, but not quite. Coffee was nice but it was time to move on again. Next door as it happened. Mike found a nice picture frame he wanted.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Finally it was back in the car again for a ride up to Holywell where I managed to get just what I wanted to complete my gift for Amelie’s room. After that I left Mike the choice of where we lunched. He decided on The Dragon’s Rest just off the A55 at the Holywell exit.

After lunch it was time to come home. We made it for 2.00 pm. We unpacked and put away the shopping then I came to work. I stayed until almost 6.00 pm then leaving just a small amount in my inbox I headed for the lounge and some relaxation. To make life fun, despite being hit inthe left hip, my problem all evening has been my chest , the left side of which has been very painful, almost like it felt when I had pneumonia. But I’m still breathing much to his disgust.  We were watching a programme that didn’t finish until 9.30 pm so I was later coming through than usual. total mail at that point 63 so it took me until 11.05 pm to finish and that was while I was being ruthless ( It’s true, I haven’t had a Ruth for ages) having to ignore some posts that have been reposted a lot or if people have sent multiple messages. I shall post at midnight come what may and then I’m in bed toot sweet!!

Am I next on the menu?

Am I next on the menu?

I'm amazed, dumbfounded , shocked!
