Welcome to an interview with Patricia Carrigan

Welcome to an interview with..

Patricia Carrigan. author of. Antiserum

What made you decide to write the book?

Well, I had already been dilly-dallying around with the beginning of the story I had but my dad actually suggested that I become even more serious about what I was writing. So, with that in mind, I challenged my self and voila!, I started writing my book.

Where did the title come from?

The title was brought up during a conversation I was having with my mom when I was having some writer’s block. Antiserum really kept coming back to me once I came up with a major part of the book having to do with an antiserum.

Do you always write in this genre?

Most of my writing is, in fact, in the genre of Science Fiction/Fantasy BUT I have written a few children’s short (very short) stories that kept me busy during a round of writer’s block. Mainly, I stick with Fantasy because I feel it allows me to expand my creativity.

Whats your inspiration to write and when did you start?

My inspiration was, to be honest, the whole vampire craze that The Twilight Saga produced after their first movie. I had begun reading the tidal wave of vampire books that came out as well as ones that were there before (i.e. the original Dracula by Bram Stoker). But when I was growing up, my dad had always watched vampire and werewolf movies. The twilight franchise was really just the spark. So, during end of my freshman year of high school and the summer before my sophomore year, I started changing my journal writes into this completely unreal story that became Antiserum.

What was your destination to publishing?

My ending destination to publishing started out as trying to be published by a big shot publishing company like Little Brown. Unfortunately, the odds of that taking forever were pretty high. I ended up researching all sorts of different self publishing companies that I thought to be up to standards and trust worthy. In the end, I published with Trafford and I love it.

Excerpt:

I don’t know this man’s name, and it doesn’t really matter… right? I mean he’s just dinner. I was trying to find a reason to feel sorry for what I was about to do. Really, I searched and picked my way through his mind to try and find something that told me, “I have something to live for!” He hated his parents, and being an only child meant that there were no other siblings to miss his existence. It’s not like his friends would blink an eye at him. They were never there for him, just for the latest parties and hook-ups. The only thing that was worth loving to him was his girlfriend, and to my knowledge, she was already being killed…
